is this good or bad, should I say yes (they've highlighted 6 of my images), is it a scam / just not worth it / a good thing???

I'd ignore it (well I just have) unless you don't want to do anything else with those photos. Just read those TCs, and for 20% it is not worth to give it all away. Other agencies aren't this greedy.

20% is 20% more than nothing and a picture sold and other agencies might not be as greedy but are they as big. So 1 sold image for money to getty images thats a sit back and glass of wine moment at the end of anyones day isnt it:thumbs:

I am afraid a few will need to sell to get that 'minimal' £50 payout. Not being able to exhibit, and sell the photos yourself is a bit harsh.
 
Hey if your just starting out I would do it... more people may see your pics and they may buy some off you :)
 
I have long toyed with the idea of Getty, and whether the 35 odd shots I have up there are worth being there. While the commission is pretty crap, it is indeed better than nothing and seeing as I don't have time to peddle my work myself it's money for old rope. Most would argue Alamy is a better deal at 60%, well in the last year I have made £6 off Alamy, and something like £1000 off Getty. I'd rather they were selling than not. Having said that I don't give Getty everything they request off me, so the key is to be selective.

If you are making money from your images elsewhere or planning to then it may not be such a good idea.
However if you are like the majority of amateur photographers where it is first and foremost a hobby, then go for it, based on the previous stated reasons.
After all, if money was a major consideration then the cost of gear would put most of us off in the first place :thinking:
 
Been invited to Getty too, yesterday.
Ive got about 50 pictures on Alamy and they have not made a penny. They have been there for a year.

So I thought I might aswell go for the Getty thing. I have nothing to loose really.
Im not selling my stuff anywhere esle and dont have the time to start, so even for 20%, its worth it considering all I have to do is write a few lines of text.

Because they invited me I have over 40 images on sale, and nearly 50 currently being reviewed. I'll be amazed if any sell! Let us know how you get on.

We got a no back from Getty ages ago, they took about 3-4 months to reply, almost missed it as it went into spam.
I've looked at some people who Getty accept and I just dont get it. We sent a range of photos, maybe we shouldve photoshopped more.
Anyway here's the link, not sure if this is right forum, welcome any feedback.

I suppose what you could do which is slightly naughty is to upload the images someone was interested in on flickr to alamy and point them there if the licence is too restrictive. If it is so restrictive you can't sell or use your own images then it isn't worth having. I already have mine in multiple places so exclusive use is hopeless.
 
If you have multiple takes of similar shots is there anything stopping you selling them one and carrying on using a very similar one?
 
From what I recall of reading their T&Cs, if it is substantially similar to one you've licensed to them, then you can't.
 
I've now got 93 images on sale, from their invitations, and haven't sold one!
 
You can now sell your RF images on other sites, such as redbubble, 500px or as prints yourself.. and RM images as signed prints..

Its been a good thing for me as I never sold elsewhere prior to getting invited by getty.. redbubble is next to useless so am pleased to be selling regularly and getting on average £100 and last month nearly £400 from getty..

it can take a few months from joining to getting a sale.. you have to wait for them to be passed by their legal team and keyword your images which is taking forever these days..
