I've been lurking around, reading everything this last week, on discovering the forum. So, since everyone else is doing it, I suppose I should introduce myself.

I'm a brand new photographer altogether, having bought my first camera - a Canon 450D last month - and I'm going about the hassle and expense of picking up all the kit. Every time I go to buy one thing it turns out you need some other thing to work with it and it's never bundled together as part of the product. So, buy a tripod, you need a bag, a strap.

Anyway, I've got the standard Canon 18-55mm IS kit lens and the Canon 70-300mm IS USM telephoto lens. I'll probably be looking to get a macro lens next, then a prime. Just ordered a tripod and a remote control ahead of a trip up to the Shetland Islands next week.

When I bought the camera I thought I'd be poking it into all sorts of nooks and crannies making those Rolf Harris can-you-see-what-it-is-yet? macro shots. As it turns out, I've developed a sudden interest in street photography instead and, while I've not ventured onto the streets yet, I intend to give it a shot one day. This branch of photography seems also to have fuelled a preference, when people are in the shot, to go black and white.
