An idea for a Nifty Fifty thread

do we want anew thread for discussion only in comp forum to go with image thread?
 
I think 1 for new shots for the comp and another one where we just post pics taken with the nifty will be fine.

I don't have a 50mm :( ...would a 30mm on a cropped sensor do...

...I don't have one of those either though. :lol: ..But I plan to get one soon. :)

I keep hearing about the 50mm lens and how cheap it is for the quality it gives. There seem to be a few variants though, so not sure which one you are all talking about.

I have a Canon 400D

What makes this lens that much better than the kit lens.
 
the 50mm f1.8 is a fixed lens, so it had no moving parts apart from focusing, the improvement over the kit lens in optical quality is huge

I don't have one at the moment but am sooooo tempted, especially after coming into this thread, darn you!
 
I got myself a 50mm 1.8 for 9 quid + p&p on ebay :)

I've found 2 currently at £6 from someone in Walsall that I'm tempted to go for. I'll just wait and see how high the bids end up going first.

Careful... are these AF lenses? At that price they may be old manual lenses.

There are 2 AFs and one manual for sale from the same person. One of the AF lenses has a bit of a mark on it and the other is spotless apparently. I think they're only currently that cheap as they have 5 days of bidding left to go. :(

Ah gotcha. Well hang in there and keep an eye on them - you never know, but there's rarely any problem getting a decent price for these lenses, they tend to be snapped up quite readily.
