Yes
Allot say and shouted about the first black president..... what i would like to see is the first Native American president........

They had a VP who was one:

Charles Curtis (January 25, 1860 – February 8, 1936) was a Kaw Nation Native American Indian who served as a Republican Vice President of the United States.

I'd just rather see the best person getting the job.

Fair enough.

I think who they are as a person and what they do whilst in office is more important than their race, colour or creed.

They represent approximately 2% of the population so on that basis alone the likelihood of a Native American becoming President is slim.

2% says it all .... what i was meaning to say is that no matter what greed or colour race but should they not have a right??

but do they??? and do they have to money to do so??? sorry it was just a question

I know where you are coming from the native Americans have had a rough deal throughout history and even now are having their land contaminated by fracking companies
the presidency has to be on merit though it shouldn't matter who is the president
it was a great day tho when Obama became president:)

I get the gist of your question too but the answer lies in the study of US politics and culture over the past 2-3 hundred years.

I also believe that, despite the USA always advertising itself as the 'land of the free' and a country of unparalleled equal opportunity it is anything but, being actually one of the more class-based societies on the planet.

Don't a lot of them own a lot of casinos or is that just a joke?

No it's not a joke. The reservations have their own laws and many of them allow gambling which of course is normally restricted in the USA to the state of Nevada and Atlantic City. Makes the reservations very popular and brings in the cash. You wouldn't believe the sight if you walked into one, it's like a retirement home. Wax like figures endlessly slotting quarters into one arm bandits.

Still, makes for quite a fun afternoon due to the sheer variety of things on offer compared to most casino's I've been to in the UK :)

I spent a few months in South Dakota some years back,
as you probably know, that is quite a strong Sioux nation strong hold.
And yes above, gambling is illegal ins Most states, so the Casino's are
built on Indian land, and controlled by the Native Indians.

According to the guys that I met and stayed with,
and one was actually an Native American Liaison officer,
They really are a disorganised race, squabbling amongst themselves,
over land (that they own).

They also have and live by their own laws, except fedral Law,
where the US government over rides the "Native law" hence the need for (a) liaison officer(s).

Its a tad more complicated than that, but that is that in a nut shell
Oh and apparently they really can't handle "fire water" either.

So they could afford to run for office but clearly prefer the cash from gambling.
I think that just about covers it :)
Could you also imagine the out cry over a Presidential election campaign,
that was financed by gambling profits?
:D

Do you mean someone like Geronimo :D

Well on that basis, we should be a lot angrier about them all being men so far.

They used to have one. He was a goon of biblical proportions.

But why? What would be the benefit to you?

Steve.

I thought he was ok. Better than that Obama chap. I like right wing leaders, pro gun parties etc. If I was American I would be a republican through and through.

Why does the OP feel a "native American" president would be a good thing and how would it benefit Americans.

We wouldn't have guessed!!

Even their democrats are more right wing than anything we have in Europe - even that Farage tw*t. No thanks!

Yes. What is that word which a lot of Americans seem to use?

yes I hope steve (st4) was joking about Bush !

Remember Dan Quayle (the incredibly incompetent VP of the Bush Snr administration) - Defending Danny boy after his statement of the strategic importance of Hawaii "(well you see its in the atlantic, and its a little bit of america that although its there will always be here" ) George senior declared " Dan Quayle is a fine young man , he reminds me of my son"

Bush junior however did have two redeeming features a) he wasnt Milt Romney, and b) he wasnt Sarah Palin either

Still a f***wit prick.

They have the right to stand for elected office, same as everyone else.

Indeed. That is pretty much the end of thread.

I loved all the jokes about and from Bush. That was more or less the only good thing about him. But you are in luck. There is a new comedian queuing in line for the spot on the main stage :)

True but still not the same as a Native American ...just saying

Nope. "Black" is 12.6% of the population. Native American is 0.9% (if you count Alaskans). In fact (and I'm too lazy to check this) if you go by percentages I think there's more reason for a Jehovah's Witness to be president than a native American. But I'll just repeat that women do seem a little under represented.

True, but I think the Americans would rather elect Hassan Rouhani to the white house before they'd elect a woman president

he is half and half not pure African american

There's no such thing.

And I think referring to someone as "half and half" these days is likely to result in you being hung up by the danglies :-)
