Hi Guys,

Does anybody know how Amazon are with returns?

I am looking at buying a lens from them, but what would happen if I do not like it, or if the copy seems to be poor?

Can you return it for a refund within 7 days or so?

Regards.

Yeah you will be fine. I've returned loads of camera kit and they've been perfect. I'd go as far to say I'm happy to pay a bit more for my kit from amazon, as they seem to have the best customer service if things aren't quite as nice/expected when it arrives.

In fact Amazon will accept returns far longer than the standard 7 days if you go through their online returns process.

I returned an mp3 player several years ago that would make my computer freeze everytime it was connected and it couldn't have been easier.

Thanks guys, a bonus that Amazon are cheaper on the lens that I want also!

Amazon is great with returns.
To a point that they will send you a replacement and then you will have to send yours back

agree to the above, amazon are amongst teh easiest people to deal with.

I had a point and shoot camera a few years ago. The shutter died after 4 months, it was replaced. Then died again after another 4 months. At 10 months I emailed saying that I was not happy and that with its track record I was not confident it would last very much after the 12 month warranty.

Amazon got back pretty much instantly and said I could use the money spent on the camera to put towards another one which was fine with me.

Hastle free and pleasant to deal with for such a big company.

A Microsoft Arc mouse developed a known fault after 3 months use and I sent an email requesting a refund, I had a reply within the hour agreeing to my request and was given a link for a pre paid post label.

It was returned on Tuesday so wondering what will happen next, will they confirm via email receipt of the item and the refund to my credit card or will I have to chase after them to have it confirmed.

I doubt if you'll have to chase them. Amazon are taking flak about tax in the UK, but their customer service is exemplary.

You'll get an e,ail shortly to say they have received it and they'll refund the card you paid with shortly afterwards.

Martyn, Lee, thanks for the clarification :)

They refused to accept a return for a set of headlight bulbs I ordered a few weeks ago, but then realised I already had some in the cupboard. They were brand new and unopened..

The told me to keep them and gave me my money back!
Free bulbs!

Never had a problem with Amazon returns. Had 3 of one item delivered in error once - on the first return, I got a full refund for the original order. Not a mistake, apparently policy! (Phoned them to check.)

Just remember that if you deal with Amazon Market Place or Preferred Traders it is NOT dealing with Amazon itself and may cause a problem.

I will only buy from Amazon itself and have returned several things long after 7 days with no problems.

The distance selling regulations say goods or services must be delivered or provided within 30 days of the date of your order or by the date you agreed. If not, you have the right to a full refund.

Also if you change your mind and want to cancel you can usually get a full refund, plus standard delivery costs, if you cancel anytime from when you first placed your order up to 7 working days after the date the goods were delivered or the date you've signed up for a service.

When you make a purchase, the trader should give you their name, address, product and delivery details, costs and cancellation rights. If they don't, you may have even longer to cancel.

But there are some times when these rights don't apply.

These are when you buy financial services, something from an online auction or from another consumer on the web. Sometimes you won't be able to cancel services or return goods, for example if they are:

- perishable like food or flowers...

- a newspaper or magazine...

- a computer game, CD or DVD where the security seal has been broken

- for services like music downloads - because you'll probably have already
agreed and received the goods before the end of the 7-day cooling off period. ;)

Amazon are easily the best I have dealt with RE returns..

coffee machine broke 5 days before the 12 months were up, requested a replacement they sent me one next day asked me to put the old one in the box of the new one and stick the free return label on send it back..

Sister had the same service with her Kindle..

Agree with others - not a single company that are better with returns than Amazon.

I opted for a refund as this is the second Microsoft Arc mouse that has developed the same fault, the first one lasted 18months.

Was expecting confirmation of receipt by now so just fired off an email.

I returned a game recently (it actually arrived already open and the disk was missing!) and it was just over a week between me posting it and receiving my email to say it had been received and my refund was granted so you might want to give it a couple more days.

Bit more patience then :)

Another +1 for Amazon returns here. Aways found them very helpful and obliging, even receiving a couple of refunds I hadn't asked for. Thier entire Kindle dept will fall over backwards to help too.

Had plenty of successful returns to Amazon. You don't even need to justify the return and the postage is prepaid (Dealing with Amazon directly however).
