Seems this has traction in the US so, no doubt will come here if it already isn't. As one commenter says.."Keep the goods and don't scan the QR code" The sensible thing, of course, is not to scan a code when you don't know the origin.

Another says.. "Remember all those packages of seeds people were getting 2 to 3 years ago ? They were a test run on how people would react, then the qr codes were added" I think someone on here highlighted that one.

Scanning the code per se isn't the issue, it's visiting the link presented. If your QR scanner doesn't present a verification step you are essentially clicking on a random link - which I hope you'd not do if it was in an unsolicited email...

Care to give us a quick precis @JohnC6
It's just over 6 minutes long but the nitty gritty starts at 2.24 minutes when he explains just how much information can be gleaned after the recipient of the parcel clicks on the QR code. The parcel ,with goodies inside ,was not ordered. It came unsolicited and to find out who it's from the recipient is asked to click on the QR code.

Ah! a form of phishing based on the physical delivery of unsolicited goods.

No depths to which the criminally minded will not sink!

I appreciate that the internet is really good but I just feel that when we grew up it was a safer world inasmuch as the internet has given an opportunity for all the worst of humanity to put itself out there. Yesterday, on LBC Radio,I heard that there are websites that tell girls,it's generally them, who are anorexic and self-harm how to do it without it being picked up at school or by parents. The Southport killer was not only able to read ISIS and Al Queda material but how to ensure you kill someone by stabbing them. Of course, he got his weapon(s) online. I'll bet I could find out how to get away with a crime via a Google search. That's why all this talk..currently by Starmer ,about age verification is a waste of time.. Not long ago, someone on here did explain how a country can ban the likes of Tik Tok,Meta,FB, Instagram etc .. but it was a bit over my head tbh..well, a lot...Lol. Now Zuckerberg is sacking moderators and fact-checkers. He's relying on self-policing. A bit naiive,I suppose, but I believe that when you have that much power and reach you have to act responsibly or is that also for times gone by..ie our day ?

How can websites that carry all this 'bad stuff' be eliminated ? I don't think they can. Anyway, the genie is out of the bottle and for most of us the web is fine . Maybe AI will come to the rescue.

Unfortunately AI will no doubt aid the criminals too in developing even more sophisticated ways to target and scam the unsuspecting:(
