Amazon firestick

Looking at getting one so what are your veiws on them plz ..
Depends on what you want to use them for?

Also depending on your WiFi and where your router is it may be better getting the older Fire box which has ethernet connection.

Have one on my TV in my bedroom. I have a well know streaming program on it so that I can watch movies etc.

Great little bit of kit, well worth the money in my opinion.

Have a look on Youtube for patching fire sticks.

I have a fire stick and I use it a lot. I can take it abroad and use it together with my prime subscription

We have one but don’t pay Amazon for Prime.
We use it when we are travelling to watch Netflix and iPlayer. It works on fairly feeble WiFi in places like Premier Inn degrading to something that looks like vhs but still works.
Netflix lets you watch tv in other countries so we’ve watched tv in France and the USA on the stick.
I also tried a Chromecast but that was hobbled by not being able to cope with hotel WiFi terms and conditions web pages.
If I were looking for something to permanently plug in at home I’d look at the bigger box.

fires stick is ok but its very slow for apps.
the fire TV box is better and the old ones are even better.

The on I've got, couple of years old now, is slow and buggy and I hate the user interface, but i don't watch much on Amazon so I put up with it.

I got rid of sky a 12 months ago and all I use now is netflix and amazon prime plus free view so far so good

I've got the older Fire TV stick (without voice control) and the interface is a little slow. Also if using some apps (like iPlayer) the audio gets out of sync with the picture, so I end up putting the audio through my surround sound enabling me to delay the audio and get it back in sync. This problem doesn't occur when watching Prime content through the native Amazon app though.
Not tried using Netflix through the Firestick though.
We did have Netflix previously but watched it through an Apple TV, which had no problems in playback and had the benefit of a box with connections for a network cable (ie you don't need to use WiFi) and digital audio out.
Both Netflix and Amazon Prime have similarly-sized selections of movies, but not the exact same movies. Prime does get frustrating when the movie you want to watch is displayed but NOT available unless you pay extra to rent it.
Prime does have the advantage of being able to swap between your mobile and the TV stick. You can even search the database on your phone (often easier if you are using text search) and then send the movie to the TV. There's also a remote control app if you misplace the remote.
The Fire TV is nice and portable though if do want to have the option of taking it away with you.

If you are getting rid of a Sky/Virgin package, I'd consider getting a Freeview Play box. This'll get you all the TV recording you want plus iPlayer and other on demand apps and many have a Netflix app too. Try looking at Humax

We have 4 in the wider family and mainly used for Netflix, Youtube, BBCiplayer etc in the bedrooms etc as the main TV is a smart tv anyway

All good here and excellent value for not much money

Bought them about 15 months ago and they are the "non shout at" type and all still work fine

Bought one about a month ago, use DSVideo, Plex, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video on it, great bit of kit but should be run from the mains using the adapter, I ignored the instructions and powered via TV USB, it ran slower and dropped WiFi connection whilst powered from the TV, back using the supplied adapter and no issues whatsoever!

A bargain. Works very well with either of my Sony TVs. I watch far more of the free Prime stuff since I bought one.

This can help the new Firestick

See that's the thing that annoys me, I pay for Amazon to provide a service, why should I have to keep buying more and more stuff from Amazon just so that I can watch the service I am paying for? People seem more than happy to keep shovelling their money over to billionaires so that the billionaires can capture more of the market and make us shovel even more money in their direction.

We have had a Firestick for about a year, works really well. BBC iplayer runs better on the stick than on our Virgin box. Great for streaming stuff from a phone too.

I have a FireTV 4k box rather than the stick, really good all round box, prime 4k, netflix 4k, other than the whole youtube issue I cant fault it.

I have a few Ugreen products and never have any issues with them.

I got one of these with a matched mains adapter and that provides 3 powered USB 3 sockets to a HPStream that is then feeding content to a TV via HDMI in my motorhome. Ideal when on rither mains hook up or generator as phones etc can be charged too, portable HDD etc, so an ethernet adapter for a firestick at home is easy enough. Adds a little more functionality and tucked away just sits in the background.

UGREEN USB 3.0 Hub 3 Port, Card Reader, Phone Stand,SD TF MS M2 4 Slots Card Adapter Compatible with Mac OS X,Windows Surface Pro,IdeaPad, MacBook Air,MacBook Retina,Windows 10,8.1,8,7,Vista,XP,Linux and more,White https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01AW3EA1O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_om6KAb5D7Y5VS

My WiFi is fine and my Firestick works great on it. Why should I fork more money over to billionaires for them to build ethernet I'm never going to use into it?

If you got good WiFi then no real need for ethernet but where I live up I pick up about 12 different SSID so can get a bit flakey I don't. Luckily I am pre-wired with cat6 is makes sense to have wired connection personally.

other option is a roku box, same principal depending on what you want to do with it potentially cheaper since you can get a sky now tv box and hack it to enable other apps
I don't know the current status of this, but I think they blocked the NowTV hack last year. But there's now a Roku Express stick that looks pretty competitive (including a remote and power adapter for £29 at the moment).
