Hi all,

Received my Amazon Echo yesterday and integrated with my Philips Hue lights, although the device is missing some features due to it only being sold and supported in the US I am extremely impressed by it! The speaker quality is impressive, obviously not Bose impressive but still great.

Here's a brief list of what is working for me at this precise time

  • It's linked to my Google Calendar and so will read out my schedule upon request
  • Voice activation On/Off and Dimming by percentage of all/individual lights in the house
  • Voice activated Play/Pause/Stop of all Bluetooth streaming apps (YouTube, Netflix etc...)
  • Radio streaming via TuneIn
  • Adding reminders/alarms
  • General Knowledge Questions
  • Traffic information
  • IFTTT Integration

Add in the additional "Skills" you can add to Alexa via the app and it's a very promising device.

If anyone else has previously looked into getting one I'm happy to answer any questions you may have. And for anyone who thinks this is nothing more than Siri / Google Now in a can, I would completely disagree, I have Google Now on my Nexus 5 (Use it frequently whilst out and about, and Siri on my iPad 4 (Barely ever use it due to reliability, "Here's what I found on the web....")

As soon as Synology DSAudio / Google Play Music and Amazon Prime UK services are enabled It'll do everything I need.
