There is a cheap deal on Amazon - echo dot for £9. Can i use this as a bluetooth speaker without connecting to wi-fi?
I would like to use it just as a speaker without having an amazon spy in my house!

You could google it, but then your paranoia might not allow such action....:exit:
2nd and 3rd Gen can connect via bluetooth but as I understand it they require Wifi to set up

Ive no problem in using wifi intermittently to set up / update the device, just dont want it permanently on sending data to Amazon...
And just because i'm paranoid doesn't mean Amazon isn't spying on me!

Just connect a 3.5mm jack between phone & the Echo.

Not sure if it still relies on wifi to be "live" though

it needs to connect to the WIFI to work I am sure.
if it drops of it starts complaining.

the DOT has a microphone mute button you can just leave on and then it can't hear you.

Where is it available for £9? I'm seeing £34.99.

If you feel that strongly just forget it. It's crap as a speaker anyway.
That seals it, i thought it may have been decent for £9, but no point getting it if its crap!

Yep it sounds crap my missus has used it to play random songs from amazon music but it’s pointless when we have a decent hifi system
