Need to order a lenshood for my new canon lens - only place seems to have it in stock is amazon.co.uk - I've never purchased much online and never used amazon I know they are a very big organisation but how reliable are they? Have requested 'express delivery'

Cheers

Generally.. about as reliable as it gets for an online retailer, pretty much the gold standard. The only caveat is if you buy from an Amazon Marketplace seller rather than Amazon itself, these can be a little less reliable but Amazon does tend to keep them inline and they all want positive customer feedback.

I'd be surprised if 7dayshop didn't have a cheap non-branded lenshood to fit your lens, but with them delivery is usually slower.

I have never, ever, had an issue with Amazon and I've spent thousands with them over the years (not just photo stuff). They're my first port of call every time and it's very rare that I find someone who can beat them on either price or service (that doesn't mean never!).

The hood is (according to Amazon) being dispatched from them not a third party and I have requested express delivery

I have had the same experirence and have been shopping with them since they started. Not a bad word to say. Shop with confidence:thumbs:

i made my first Amazon purchase just after xmas... another 3 quickly followed.

No issues with any of them (a lens, 2 filters, and a screen for my blackberry after i dropped it :( ). some of the purchases were with Amazon themselves, other one was with a marketplace seller. All quick easy, and no hassles.
Only hassle i did have was with UPS who for some reason didn't think my building existed, it was sorted after a phone call; but that was hardly Amazon's fault.

I'd be very confident shopping with them, especially if you are purchasing from Amazon themselves. They have quite good prices too!

Hugely confident with Amazon - yes, they can get it wrong, as can any company, but it is so rare as to be negligible compared to the number of times I have shopped with them over years. Always always one of my first places to go when shopping on line for all manner of stuff.

I'd absolutely agree with that. Also to say, if you do have an issue, their customer service is superb

Same here i buy everything from them (even food), have prime membership and find them perfect.

if you live in the areas covered then the same day or sunday delivery options are brilliant.

Initially, a few years back, amazon tried to fob me of onto the product manufacturer in the case of a fault but more recently I have had nothing but god service.

Been using Amazon for years without a problem, even when an item needed returning due to damage etc.

Amazon marketplace sellers however are a different kettle of fish and I try to avoid them after being almost stung twice.

I've used Amazon for years and only have one gripe: when you do a search for an item they list a lot of other items that aren't what you're looking for.

A few months ago I searched for "Nikon D5100" in books and ordered one that had good reviews. When it arrived it turned out to be the version for the D3100. I not only had to return it and re-order, I had to pay return postage, simply because I assumed that when I searched for D5100, that's what I would be getting.

It now takes a bit longer to order things, but I won't get caught that way again.

I must have spent thousands with amazon over the years, not once had a problem with them.

Just to add my 2p worth and to boost your confidence even more. I have been shopping with amazon for at least five years and never once had an issues with them or their third party sellers.:)

I've used Amazon for years and never had any problems at all. I use it weekly :shake: and some great bargins.

I've never used express delivery...I find with standard delivery I receive deliveries very fast.

I'm rather weak with Amazon and it's one of the few, in fact, only site I use that retains my bank details so I don't even have to get up and find my bank card :gag: I'm sure I could turn it off, but what fun would that be :D

Cheers.

Amazon are top notch. As mentioned in previous posts "Amazon marketplace" sellers are slightly different as they're independent retailers selling on the Amazon website, but they're usually excellent too. I'm pretty sure Amazon keep them under tight control.

I've noticed that Amazon (not the marketplace dealers) usually default to express delivery but you can often go back and edit the delivery to "super saver" which is free. In theory it takes longer but in reality I've never noticed any difference.

Amazon have the best customer service on the internet. simple

I'm just in shock that some people have never used Amazon!!!:bonk::shrug:

All said above - They are my first port of call for just about anything!

Personally as a heavy user of Amazon, I think on the whole they are excellent, however occasionally they do insist on using a courier (specifically one called Yodel) that is a shambles. But you can rely on Amazon, and even with the Marketplace sellers that are also on Amazon, if something goes wrong Amazon tend to favour refunding the customer extremely quickly.

On the subject of lens hoods, it might be worth looking at 7 Day Shop... they have a range of copycat Canon lens hoods that are virtually indistinguishable from the genuine ones but for a fraction of the price.

I'm another who is pleased with Amazon. I bought a Samsung TV from them a year ago. They were slightly dearer than the Amazon Marketplace sellers but I wanted next day delivery and also to make sure it qualified for the cashback offer from Samsung. It seemed fine when it arrived but a fault developed over a few weeks. I contacted Samsung regarding the warranty but they were useless, failing to respond. I contacted Amazon to ask if they had a direct contact with Samsung who I could phone and got an email back to say they were sending a new TV straight away by next day delivery and arrange to collect the old one at their cost but my convenience. Amazing customer service that has resulted in me buying quite a bit from them.

Top marks to Amazon from me. Always had a good service with excellent prices to be found.
Worth checking out their 'Warehouse Deals' section - I've found a couple of real bargains in here over the years.

IMO they have one of the best customer service records there is, I have bought loads and no problems.

However my DIL ordered some toys for Xmas from Amazon, when they arrived the driver pointed out that the boxes were a bit wet as he had nowhere to keep the parcels so they had been in his garden when it rained!
The DIL said that she would not accept them but he insisted that he would not take them back and that Amazon would arrange for replacement.

On contacting Amazon they immediately dispatched a new item and sorted out a returns label, hopefully they also had words with the delivery firm.

there was a time a few years back when some people including myself got their credit cards charged fraudulently. Apparently it was done by some amazon employees. Not anymore though. I've bought loads of stuff from them over the years and had always been happy.

Amazon is the only on line retailer I've used regularly for years. My first experience with them was when I was living in South Africa, and they've just stopped deliveries of anything other than books and CDs/DVDs to SA because of theft. I mailed them and asked if I could order for delivery in the UK, and pay with an SA card, and got a personal reply within hours assuring me that this would be fine.

Never had a problem with them or the Amazon Market sellers (I think Amazon have an oversight role, there's something about this on their website), and customer service is excellent. I've only used express delivery once, and the goods arrived as promised, but their ordinary delivery times are usually pretty good.

I've used them quite a bit recently and the only problem I had was them delivering a day earlier than expected, so no one was in to recieve the parcel. Doh!

Always had top service from amazon.

Even ordered some bits and plumped for same day delivery just to see if they could honour it. I placed the around just before the cut off at mid day, tracking showed it left their warehouse around 3ish, it was on my doorstop just after half 4.

Less than 4 and a half hours from placing the order to having the items in my hands, extremely impressed

No problems with Amazon regarding price, quality, items or returns. BUT, I do wish they would'nt use delivery firms like Yodel! (rebranded from HDN) the service is atrocious. I have had parcels left at the wrong house (in the same street though) also in the wrong street! The customer service is, at best, useless. They give you a tracking number, then tell you it doesn't exist! Read about them HERE.
Contacted Amazon about the deliveries but they just tell you that they cannot choose which service delivers your items! WHAT?
I have told them that if they ship my items via Yodel, I will cancel the order immediately.

I wonder who/what determines how the goods are delivered? Perhaps we've just been lucky, but we've never has so much as a hiccup.

Mind you, we did have a bit of a dodgy neighbour living opposite us a while ago. He never caused caused any problems here, to be fair, but his name appeared in rather a lot of the local newspaper's court reports (shoplifting, breach of the peace, drunk and disorderly etc) and the police came looking for him a number of times. I don't think I'd have felt too confident of receiving anything left with him!

Leaving with a neighbor I have no problems with, this one was just thrown in the porch at a house up the street, the occupants were away, so I got the parcel 3 days after I should! that was after a load of hassle with the so called customer (lack of) service. They said that the parcel had been left in my porch, I don't have one!
