Amazing Vintage Effect

Very nice Michael.

Those are really cool Michael

particularly number 2, any chance of the settings?

Thanks.
I did these a while back and never got around to putting them up.
I took some of the settings from the exif, (previously posted), and tuned
them a bit to suit my images.
I think a major part is starting with a certain photo that would suit the settings....if that makes sense!
Something with detail.

Hadnt they, first thing I did

Aye.. but you are a bit of a latecomer to the party.. 20-20 hindsight is great when you're 6 weeks late to the thread.. and then the first thing you do is go poking people with a pointy stick.

There's plenty other threads where you can go and be unconstructive and argumentative.

I was joking in my first reply, I hadnt released it was a few weeks old though

Chuck a couple of smileys in next time..

It doesn't read like a joke..

Yes, I see that you would really need suitable images.

I`ll have to have a play

My little effort......

I`ve had a bash, but I think I`ve got a long way to go.

I haven`t got a totally suitable photo to try so I used one of my grandson`s bike which was trimmed up for a contest at the school in honour of the Olympics.

Thanks for posting the link Marcus. The guy is an incredible photographer and I've thoroughly enjoyed trawling through his images. If I took a series of photos like the Le Mans set, or some of the others, I'd put the camera on the shelf, give it an affectionate pat, say "job done" and never take another photo.

And thanks for the exif post Sean, I'm going to work through it and see what I can learn along the way.

Good set there David, and pretty close on the processing. Can you give us a hint on what you did?

You probably weren't trying to exactly match the Nivalle shots but he seems to have a yellowy-brown tint rather than green, a drop in exposure/brightness and less depth of field.

Thanks Ian, this is very much still a work in progress.

I must have been looking at the screen for too long not to have noticed the green cast, it wasn't intentional. I have tweaked the green tone curve and have got to this point which I think is an improvement:

As to how I have got to this point I went through a number of Nivalle's photo's and extracted the exif data. Whilst the Lightroom setting for each picture was obviously tailored to that picture there were some general settings that seemed to be in each. This gave me a starting point to produce a general preset to use. Each picture then needed tweaking to bring back the depth of the colours, amount of vignette etc.

Whilst no doubt I'll keep tweaking the pictures I suspect (with my limited ability) that I have probably gone as far as I can in producing something in the style of Nivalle.

I'm a big fan of Nivalle, even if he is attached to a car firm I can't stand, he is a great artist.

I love these effects, particularly when used with the right subject matter.

Well done for taking the time to replicate them, all you need to do now is save them as a preset and let me know...lol

Only kidding. Once i get my lightroom 4 up and running again (waiting on some new ram to be delivered for my mac) i will have a play.

I have a couple of presets that im willing to trade if you like, a couple of vintage style ones too.

In fact, is there a lighthroom preset thread on this forum where people can trade / give away presets?

Maybe this thread could do with a pre-set....theres one here:

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6574169/WilkosRetro.lrtemplate

from this adjust the exposure and blues/oragnges...bear in mind neville is a very good photographer and uses lots of local adjustments ontop of a preset similar to this...its not a great photo to but its the closest ive got

Edit**

ive just noticed he tends to adjust the colour temp down (mostly) somewhere between 3500 to 4000 for most pics so you might want to adjust down

Thanks for the preset TheDrift! Sort of off topic since I've been having a play about with it with other types of photos but it's got a lovely tone to it and I'm grateful for the upload :)

I made a LR preset a few years ago that seems very similar to this.
