My Local Church has had a framed sketch on its wall for 170yrs and it is a copy of
'St Veronica's Handkerchief'
the original is now worth millions (Google it)and i has caused controversy for all the years of its existence

I first saw it as a Boy in the Church and it has had my interest ever since
well today I managed to get a few hand held images of this famous sketch so you can see and judge for your self

I will upload the picture as it is shown in full view and then a close up with a larger version you can see via link

what you need to do is open up the larger version and look directly into the eyes of Jesus and do not look away
he will open his eyes while you look
its a pretty amazing thing considering its so old
anyway this is not a joke you will see him open his eyes (or close them)

First picture of Jesus that looks Asian and not like a young Steve Pereguine Took.
Didn,t work for me, sorry.
 
It's a piece of trick art. The eyes are painted ambiguously so that they can appear either open or closed depending on how the picture is viewed. There's a hint of iris and pupil painted into the tops of the eyes, and the bottoms portray closed lids.

I am not disputing it is clever sketchwork my point being for its age it is a pretty amazing sketch regardless of how the effect happens

for those who dont see it - I think if you look straight into the eyes and it just happens
pretty much all the folks who see the sketch in the church can see it - I guess my image of it must not show it up as well
 
Reminds me of those animations where it spins one way then you look again and it will spin the other. Very cool considering it is 170 years old
 
Come off it. I recognise Russle Brand when I see him! If you wasnt some eyebrow-lifting art, try Holbein's The Ambassadors. Take a look at the skull. This was done in 1533.
 
I found that because of the ambiguity in the manner the eyes have been painted that looking at it close up on screen the effect was minimised, but stand about 2-3 metres away from the screen and the effect can be seen more readily [for me] - clever:thumbs:
 
For me, they were open from the outset and then they closed - after that, I couldn't get them to open again :D
