Amateurs, do you carry business cards?

and arguing doesnt help. I actually agree with Kelack, im sick to death of negative postings on here, its dragging everyone down. Kelly is normally very chilled, it says a lot when even she is annoyed.

okay matty fair play (i'll remove the offending posts)

and fwiw I agree with you and kelly about people who deliberately set out to be negative all the time - that is not how I roll.

I wonder if any amateurs use business cards and websites to give their images away, royalty free, just for pleasure?

I don't see how they could be accused of pretending to be pro.

I'm no pro, and have no pretensions to be. My cards have my name, email address and websites on, nothing about being a photographer. The reason I bought them from Moo was because you can hav different images printed on the back, and so I now have a portfolio in my pocket, which is great for when people ask about my photography. Some more about them on my blog.

i have moo mini cards wih my pics on the back, although its a hobby i enjoy directing people tp my site and showing off the pics that i am proud of.

i got the mini cards to escape that "business card vibe i felt a smaller card took away that "i am pro and hire me" kinda vibe

i have been asked and given (close friends & family) printed and framed images covering my costs again for the same reason of loving that feeling of showing off my work in someones house.

photography is a hobby but i love the mini cards and will continue to carry them

The OP asked if it was worth getting business cards to promote his photographs. It's an easy way to pass on information for a small cost. Not everyone is a full time professional, some might do it in addition of their normal jobs and it's a good way to build up slowly towards perhaps making the transition.

Sort of, I wondered if it really happened that people asked for details when out and about, which may result in the odd print sale or similar. I have no intentions of going pro, it's my hobby 1st. I have seen friends ruin hobbys by making them businesses and have no interest in doing the same, but I'd be stupid to say no to the odd bit of extra income. Also I have one in the car incase I am involved in an accident and save writing on scraps of paper as I have had to in the past.

*by the way I think a pro is some one who makes the majority of their living from something, and depends on that income. Someone who sells the odd print here and there is not a pro.

Vistaprint cards are horrible.
Moo are not too pricey and you'll end up with a card that's roughly 9,000 times nicer.

Ha, it's just a business card... ;)

Am i the only one who tries to release as much of my work as possible under a public license? Either GPL or CC Attribution usually.

the thing with photography for me, is i want as many people as possible to get as much enjoyment out of viewing my photos as i get out of taking them, so yes i hadn't thought about it but i would carry business cards
