Well, strange thing just happened to me. I am on my second session with an enlarger at home.
Did a bit on a college course but have since made use of my brothers kit. So the strange thing was, i started opening the wrong end on a pack of ilford multigrade fibre based 8x10 Matt, as i was pulling the glue it was lighting up!?
The glue was giving off little turquoise flashes not unlike phosphorus plankton in waves at night.
I know its late and I've been standing under a safety light the last three hours but really! Anyone else seen this? I imagine its not the best thing to have in a darkroom so does anyone think ilford are aware of this light emitting glue?

Ahhh im not going bonkers its triboluminescense (i think that's how you spell it)
Its a phenomenon created with the separation and joining of electrical charges and can be observed in many materials.
Still though, i think i may ring ilford to let them know their paper packaging ain't darkroom safe lol

Not done any darkroom work since I left school in the early '80s and never noticed that light but then again, I always opened the bag at the right end! I have seen it on envelopes though. Is it bright enough to fog the paper? I rather doubt it since it's not very bright and is very quick.

I've noticed this phenomenon with some of those self seal envelopes if you unseal them in the dark. Very strange but quite a nice colour glow:)

Yes it happens with roll film too !
Just have have to separate it slowly from the backing paper (it can affect film)
Most people would only notice it if loading the film spiral in a darkroom not a changing bag.

Wow. Film people have such strange hobbies. Opening and closing envelopes in the dark?? I haven't lived :)

That's what she said ;)

This thread made me smile!

I'm now going to go open some envelopes under my duvet...
