No, it isn't just you. I, like you, have experience of working with building computers, working with operating systems and software packages and Photoshop was completely alien to me at first. There is nothing intuitive about it, and everything is backwards as far as tool controls from Paint Shop Pro, which is where I started.
It wasn't until I needed the advanced functionality of PS that I eventually forced myself to learn how to use it. Begrudgingly, and grumbling at every stupid needlessly complicated step. Adobe aren't the best at producing user friendly software, Acrobat is a steaming heap of ..., but one can't dispute the power of the software when you do eventually get to grips with it.
