Pretty damn good in low light! Most of my stuff is music based in strange and low lighting. I rarely shoot at less than ISO 1250 and often at 1600. The thing about noise is that its much more obvious in the dark areas of the shot. Have a look at my flickr, nearly all low light! Most of the shots are with a 50mm 1.4mm. The only thing I would say is that in poor light and contrast the AF struggles sometimes. If so use the centre af point which is more sensitive.
At the time I shot in AV mode at 1.4 and let the camera sort out the speed. I have now discoverd 'safety shift'. The camera has a SS setting and i leave in TV on say 1/180, if the light is good the camera will take at 180 at the highest apeture it can. Generally the lighting is nowhere good enough for that and reduces the speed and apeture to still get some sort of shot. A very useful feature!!
