Yes
I currently have a Canon 50D with only a 50mm nifty (as I've sold my others off due to lack of use).

I mainly take portrait photos (of my daughter and family), but do venture onto other things when travelling etc, city shots, landscapes etc...

And for the video side of things, I have a Sony hard disk HD camcorder (SR10) to capture, again, my daughter growing up.

I've worked out I could sell the 50D for around £500 and the SR10 for around £400 which is £900 towards a new 5D MKii.

Would that be a stupid thing to do, or (and back me up here as that's what I'm after) am I doing the right thing by investing in a body I wouldn't ever (really) need to upgrade....

Obviously, I can benefit from the full frame capabilities of the camera, great in low light, and sooooooo good at giving the DoF I'm really wanting and then start to purchase some serious bits of L glass.... and also, film video for those precious moments need to remember.

Go on - help me take the plundge!!

I've just bought a 5d2 - it'll arrive sometime tomorrow, and have a 50d. So will let you know in due course. I do think though that the answer will be - heart - yes - mind - no :)

To be honest you have a great camera already and a bit of a lens shortage. As I am sure many will agree with me, you cannot underestimate the impact good quality lenses will have on your photos.

As much as I enjoy getting new bodies I would always rather put money in lenses. Go on get yourself some L for the 50D.

Sell me the 50D and do what you like!! :D

Seriously, other than the nifty fifty what lenses are you going to be putting on the 5D MkII?

Well, I have 2 options - stick with the 50D and buy the 17-55 2.8 and maybe the 70-200 F4 IS.

Or, buy the MKii 5D, and buy a 17-40L, but then slowly buy the really nice primes like, 85L 135L and maybe eventually the 50 1.2....

50D/17-55 is a great combo, for indoor family stuff, but also as a general walkaround. There's one for a sale (at a good price, I think) at AVForums currently (not mine). I would suggest getting more glass and sticking with the crop body for now :)

I would say do what you feel is right for you.
