Hi, I have recently started using Lightroom 3 and would like advice as to whether I am on the right lines with what I am doing.

Here is the original photo

and here it is after I have tweaked it in Lightroom,

I have introduced the nd grad filter option as I wanted the sky to look a bit more forboding but am not sure if I have overdone it or is there a better way of getting a similar effect. Rest was just tweaking levels here and there till I got what I thought was right although I think the trees to the left could be lighter perhaps.

Feel free to take the original and do your own post processing if you want to.

Looks OK on my iPhone, with processing the end result is what you want it to be, there isn't really a right or wrong!

As said, it's not right or wrong....it's what you like.

I like to see the full range of tones in an image and you have crushed a lot of shade detail with your editing so I don't like what you have done to it. If you like it then that is all that matters.

Thanks for the replies, I suppose you could say I am not happy completely with it hence the request for suggestions.

I can see what you mean about the shade detail, I will see how I get on with the burn tool in Photoshop to just darken the sky area and leave the other detailing alone.

You can use the adjustment brush in lightroom to alter that exposure locally to achieve the same thing.
