I have noticed as I am getting older I no longer like doing the things I did as a kid. When I was in my twenties I used to love going out driving in my car, it was great fun and it always felt I was off out on an adventure. I hate driving now, I find it so boring and I get riled by other road users and the amount of traffic, and will only drive if I really do have to.

I used to love going camping when I was in my mid twenties, I went camping recently and I found it ever so boring and I could not wait to get home.

When I meet up with mates who I have known from school days, I am now finding it hard to find anything to talk about. But when I was a kid I could not wait to meet up and natter for hours, but now I can't wait to leave them and get back home.

I do think a lot about the days when I was a youngster and all the fun me and my mates had, but I am not having nearly as much fun as I did years ago.

I will be fifty later this year, and I was just wondering is this how things are as you get older, or is it just me becoming a boring sod regardless of my age?

Welcome to the club :D
As you get older I think that your priorities change.
I'm sure you do a lot of things now that you wouldn't have thought
about doing when you were younger?

Its called maturity

This is me...

Ask the Wife!

When I was young, driving was an adventure because I never had any reasonable expectation that the car would get there, and back, without breaking down:) Now that cars have improved out of all recognition and now that I don't have to buy old bangers that are on their last legs, things have changed.

I recently caught up with a guy who had been my best friend when we were both in our twenties, I had a long phone conversation with him, but realised that we have both changed far too much for us to have any more conversations. Basically he's turned into a boring old man - I like to think that I only look old:)

I've always been competitive but have never been into sports. Years ago I would never have spent every weekend out shooting as I do now, it would have got in the way of my leisure time, now it is my leisure time.

Most people of my age have retired, I'm still working twice as many hours as most people ever have, I find life interesting and fun, I have enough money to do the things I want to do, all my children have grown up, and the only downsides for me are that I can't make long term plans, because of age and health concerns.

Life for me hasn't got worse, it's just evolved.

Looks like I have just turned into a boring sod maybe :)

Problem is my family and friends have no interest in photography. For example my missus just loves wheelchair basket ball she just cant stop talking about it.

We both talk to each other about our hobbies, but neither are interested in the the others hobby!

I am very similar. Try to keep a relatively youthfull outlook on things, but never never seek out the company of young folk (don't reject them if they want mine, though).
Got plenty hobbies and love being outdoors. Still perfectly capable of having the same stupid ideas in my head as when I was 18.

I'm 44 and you should hear the exhaust on my Sierra XR4x4i Cosworth!! :D :D

Boy racers eat my dust!!

i think this sort of thing happens with everyone.

it's like going down the town on a friday/saturday night and getting wasted. most people did this in their late teens and twenties, it's a rite of passage but most grow out if it by their late 20s.

the last time we had a big night out in town i end up getting frustrated *because* of all the drunk wonkers and the time it takes getting served at the bar. i'd rather go out for a nice meal with my friends and have a few beers so we could hear each other speak.

it's also like playing computer games: as a kid, me and my mates used to spend hours playing and discussing all the latest games, technology and graphics, i grew up in the 1980/1990s and technology was progressing at a very fast rate then and it was an exciting time to be growing up if you were into that sort of thing (i'd argue that even though things have moved on greatly since i was a kid, the pace of change is much, much slower), but now, i couldn't even contemplate spending hours and hours playing a computer game inside the house in front of the telly, it would seem like a criminal waste of life.

I'm NEVER growing up!!

Peter Pan comes to mind...that's what most people call me cos i never grow up.

When I do have an "old git" moan, my mrs laughs and says I am the clone of Victor Meldrew :D.....truth be known, she's the one becoming the old crone ( oops the "mature" one :D)

she's the one becoming the old crone ( oops the "mature" one :D)

OUCH!
I do hope she doesn't see that or you are right "in it"

:D

About the only thing I can be bothered to get grumpy about nowadays is "yoof's who wear their jeans, halfway down their arse" with their slightly off colour boxers on view to all....

Don't get it!

(Well I know the alledged history of it - US prisons etc... )

I think the point of the jeans thing is to prove there are ones big enough to fall off them.... not everyone can manage that these days. I assume their message is the opposite of the ones that wear skinny jeans and have a spare tyre hanging over the top thus negating the 'skinny' aspect.

After a certain amount of time on the planet you generally have seen almost everything and there is less that seems new even though the pace of change is ever accelerating.

I'll have you know my jeans fall off, (if I undo my braces :D)- that's because they are slightly large.......and just so comfortable. And I wear them on my gut - not like the spare tyre brigade who wear them two sizes too small under the gut with the too small shirt which over-emphasises it

Once the trousers go over the gut you're officially an old fart :D

That sounds like a friend of mine, he's the same age as me now 51

A few years ago I had a spare ticket to see U2 at twickenham , it didn't cost me anything so I rang and asked if he wanted to come for free

I'd pick him up and drop him off

He just said naaaa I don't go to gigs anymore

I haven't rung him since, old fart

I went and it was great, got right down the front and felt like I was 20 again, came out bouncing, literally , you're as old as you feel, if you're 50 enjoy yourself, you'll be dead soon

Been watching Punk Britanna on the TV recently. I was a bit of a rebel. Now I'm just a smuck. That's life, and I'll probably be dead soon.

Nah, your OK I never could stand punk either ;)

I'll be 50 later this year, but don't feel anywhere near it in my head, nor physically. I was never into drinking even as a youth, couldn't see the point. I'd much rather be the one driving as I enjoyed it so much and still enjoy driving now. (Off for a blast round the M25 to Gatwick and back at around 1:00pm, can't wait, might even frighten a few boyracers along the way:lol:) I started going to the gym again around 5yrs ago after a ten year rest with a shoulder injury. I can't get enough of it, I'll be in the gym at 4:45 am before work to hit the weights and back in there again for 20 mins cardio during my 1/2hr lunch break. I've no intention of getting old anytime soon
much to my wifes disgust, she's 7 years younger than me and suffers all the aches and pains going. I tell her she must be older than me.:lol:
I could get an early retirement from work in a little over 8 yrs time and my only worry is where I can find a gym open that early in the morning so I can have the rest of the day to do and enjoy other stuff.

I'm only a couple of years off 50 now and I'd say that I prefer things now compared with my 20's & 30's.
I guess I used to like driving when I got my first old banger when I was about 18 but it was always a struggle paying for it at that age!
I get pretty bored driving now so prefer being a passenger but I like the way driving can easily get me to interesting places for photography so it's a "mean to an end" really.
I did not like school much and I don't think I have really met up with anyone from school apart from one friend who lives in the same town now, but not too worried as I'm usually pretty busy doing things most of the time like photography, running, cycling and walking.
I think a lot of my old school classmates are mainly married with families now so I guess probably tied up doing family related things whereas I am free to do what I want with my time which suits me fine.

I have just reached 60 and I love driving my new car, love the idiots on the roads and think to myself I was like that once, never see any school mates as I live 150 miles away from where I was brought up, Life is one big adventure and I allways see something new every day, the countryside has a vast amount of wealth to take in and for camping I have a caravan I have placed on a site and I get to it as often as I can do.

All I can say is life is to short and you need to get out more, loads of stuff going on through the country and I cannot wait for my next adventure to Newquay next week, would love to try that surfing ;)

when I got my first old banger when I was about 18 but it was always a struggle paying for it at that age!
I remember buying my old Escort way back in 1981, it was a real banger full of holes, it cost me £200 the insurance also cost me £200 third party only. My insurance now costs me £295 fully comp for a Citroen C1, so I suppose that is one plus for being older :)

I have just reached 60 and I love driving my new car, love the idiots on the roads and think to myself I was like that once,

I pulled up at the lights the other day, sat next to me was a lad in a car and a female passenger. They had the music blasting and they were jigging in their seats. Me and the missus shook our heads and laughed, realising that's just exactly what we did

Buy a rwd turbo with a limited slip diff and no way in hell will you not like driving! Some sideways action and hold on to your knickers :D

Saw two policemen in the street yesterday, both looked to young to be policemen, now thats getting old :D

I am getting old, but also MUCH sillier.:D
I have WAY less interest in other peoples opinions, and if some people dont like what i say, or what i do. F em.
Infact i even enjoy winding up the more pompous or self righteous.
I am looking forward to being incredibly grumpy and opinionated.
MY jeans go under my gut, but stay up with a belt.
If they fit round my gut, i'd look like Simon cowell.I dont tuck my shirts in to my jeans.

I'm told Gary sometimes wears pink underpants to be daring.;)

I agree with a lot that's been said on here:- driving's not the same as when I was 18 as there's no sense of freedom or adventure when I'm fighting traffic during my daily commute. Why can't the "yoof" of today dress properly without having their arse or muffin top on display? Even worse: why can't they write properly - it's not "kewl".

I'm 38 going on 58! But, I'm happy with my lot :D
