Hi all.

I have posted a few threads and photos and have noticed I get hardly any comments.

It stood out on my recent post

http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=32852

I appreciate there are several other similar threads but they all have numerous comments.

Mine only has one and even that doesn't comment on my pictures at all.

I enjoy taking photo's but am beginning to feel a bit disheartened.

Keep ploding along and you will be fine. I am sure you will get some messages, get some more pictures up.

Just how it goes sometimes weirdo. Also, replying to weirdo is a bit weird!

Far too many posts to keep track of them all, despite the best intentions of many members and mods.

Your pics were fine - but that may be the problem; if they dont wow people you may not get many comments and rather than criticise peopl emay say nothing.

Chin up - keep posting. I'm sure you'll get some CC soon

There is nothing qrong with the images it's just that this forum is becoming a victim of it's own success in that more members = more posts = more images and less time to comment on them.

Sometimes someone replies about it a few days after its posted and then a whole load of people post about it.
Keep posting and dont get downhearted.

:agree: There have been a LOT of posts recently, especially about the Renault weekend, so its very difficult to keep up.
Jonnyreb is exactly right - if the pics had something really wrong with them or were exceptionally good, then people would comment, but when they're 'just OK' I find it very difficult to comment and often find myself just saying something lame like 'nice pics' :).
Your shots from the weekend were OK, but one small tip I'd say would be that they could do to be a little sharper and with a little more 'pop' possibly with a slight contrast adjustment
Anyway, don't get disheartened, keep up the good work. :)

Don't be afraid to bump your thread too.

If only one person has replied, wait a couple of days, reply to their reply and bingo! Back to the top as RR Fierce would've said.

Really though, don't worry too much. It's nothing personal, just a world of busy people and lots of posts to post back into!

I post a photo every day. Sometimes they get lots of comments, others 1, others none. Its just the way of things. Does it mean its a bad photo, no not really. It just means it got no comments. If I was doing something terribly wrong people would tell me so at least I have that :)

I never go into the motorsport forum so would not have seen those images to comment, sport of any kind bores me silly so I tend to avoid pictures of it. Not saying they won't be great pictures like :)

:agree: apart from the current Rugby world cup and Beach Volleyball ;)

Weirdo 109, I am very new to this forum and I lurk a lot, I do look at the items that invite CC and wonder do people who offer the invitation want CC from the likes of me? technically my comments would be of no use to you because IKBA (Hons) but I sometimes look at photos and think umm I would have cropped it a bit there or a slightly different angle may have helped etc etc. So would you invite my sort of comment or shall I continue lurking? Regards Jim

I was thinking the same the other night after killing a few threads, wonder if I'll do the same here

you big jessie

personally i take photos for me, not for adulation. If every photo i took was crap it wouldnt bother me (probably are) but if i wanted advice to improve photos i'd just ask or do what i'm doing now read old posts.

ok i suppose some praise would be nice :D

They look good to me but they are cars and they have as much excitement to me as watching paint dry

Don't get disheartened, as has been said, the forum is getting much busier and it's very difficult to keep up with new posts.

Everyone else...

If you see a pic crying out for a reply and you have thoughts on the subject, then post them. Everyone likes a little feedback and it's very discouraging, especially for newcomers to see their efforts seemingly ignored.

All comments & honest c&c are welcome here Jim, that's how people learn to improve their photography. Even specialists & pro's get it wrong sometimes & miss little (or big) things that someone else may notice (you don't need to be qualified to have an opinion).

Weirdo, there's nothing wrong with your pics mate, a bit of a sharpen & you'll be sorted imho

Agree with what has been said before about the sheer volume of posts now, my problem is I do a lot of browsing at work and our internet filter blocks the likes of photobucket and others so I cannot see the pics and think I'll look later, then totally forget :bonk:.

Thanks all for your comments and replys. I fully appreciate that this is a massive forum with lots of threads and that people only get time and want to post on a number of threads.

I know my pics are nothing special when compared to many of the others posted on here, I rarely have time to get out and about and probably don't have the best equipment. I think thats one of my main frustrations, I have a lens that I thought would be good but it doesn't seem very sharp, but then I don't have the money to spend on buying another big lens.

I post what I see as images I have taken that I feel are the best I have achieved on that occasion and am reasonably or pretty happy with. I try to be a bit creative and see things differently with the image.

My username comes from my favourite song "Weirdo" by the charlatans and "109" is the name of their fan club, I just thought it went well together.

I take all your comments greatfully and will endeavour to keep posting.

Thanks alot all.

Exactly, it's almost impossible to keep up with posts nowadays. I try not to only look at one bit of the forum so work through the home page, then a couple of pages of new posts and that's about as much time I have. It's very easy to miss posts that drop off the bottom so quickly now.

The only thing wrong with that statement is the word 'almost'. I spend a lot (to much) time browsing the posts and wish I could comment on every new one. Unfortunately there are only 24hrs in the day. :shake:

Don't forget people that critique and feedback is a two way street. If you're just going to post regularly asking for feedback you're not going to get the same response to your own posts as someone who makes the effort to critique the pics of others. You don't have to be an 'expert' (whatever that is). Your opinion is valid and you'll learn a lot just by looking at other people's shots and giving some thought to your comments. In short, get involved and you get the payback. :)

It's a bit like deviant sex - if you want to receive it you gotta be prepared to give it. :D

But in a way therein lays the problem, I post and joebloggs comments joebloggs posts and I comment now if I do that to everyone who comments on my shots I then dont have time to comment on others shots.
Does that sound daft ?
I now stick in the macro forum which is my main area of interest and eventually comment on everything posted by experienced and especially new posters, I appreciate any comments made on my own shots, but that doesnt mean that I will return the comment unless you post in the macro forum, or you do something that I think is simply outstanding.
I bet thats just reduced the comments I get:lol::lol:

LOL. All we're really saying is that we want this to remain the friendly helpful place it is which is the thing which sets us apart from many of the other forums out there. As we get busier it will become all too easy to take our eye off the ball and lose what sets us apart from the rest. We have all sorts here from pros through advanced users down to brand newbies, and they all seem to like what they see here so we must be doing something right.

We all have real life issues which get in the way of the time we can spend here, but if we want to keep the board on track it's down to all of us to contribute when we can.

Sod the forum CT - tell us uninitiated more about this deviant sex thingy :naughty:

I'd like to mate but I've never really understood it - it's all good to me!

lol - fair enough. Spose i should get on and critique some piccies instead. Or do some work. Ho hum :D

Easy now - don't overdo it. ;) :D
