Am I better than I think?

If they are pro photographers and are getting paid for what they do and have a career from it then there must be something about those pictures that your not seeing.

I think its often the same as art... its subjective about wether it has good composition, colour, light etc.
Once a person knows all the basic rules then they are able to break those rules to make an image better.

Would you pm me a link to one of the sites? im interested to see the pictures.

Sorry but I don't think it's right to give a link even via pm, really wish I could as it would help me out a lot lol

I understand all the point people are saying, I now understand the way of the newspaper togs etc....

But these pictures really just lack any umpfh, they look more like, this is my first go with a camera and at sports togging.

I think my origional points I was trying to make have been lost now.

I was basically trying to say maybe I have more knowledge of togging than my confidence and critique of my own picture let me have

tbh i think its good that you are over critical... its a great way of learning more...
Im the same, been doing this for about 6-12 months. I used to do photography years ago and its been ages since ive done anything...

Now im back doing it im super critical of my own work, and can always see ways to improve... which in turn has made me quite critical of other work i see.

You look at a picture and think, if only they had used a reflector here, or maybe they should have avoided this angle etc etc. But then maybe thats exactly what the photographers themselves are also thinking (except they get paid for theirs and i dont)

Dont forget flickr downsizes, sharpens and saves average images. newspapers are printed at what 72 dpi low res with low mb files to get the wired in so you cant compare. However, as I said, keep shooting and enjoy what you do.

Isn't a pro tog a photographer that charges / makes a living?

I'm going to run and hide now!

It wasn't in the paper I was compaing.....I know they can make master pictures look crap! Lol I remember when mine first went in the paper when I looked I was like oooo god what the hell happened to them!

But yea I love shooting, it just make you feel a bit meh when you see somthing you feel you can do a lot better.

Lol there is always one isn't there!

Two ways I see pro as, one making most of their income, two in pro looking pictures.

Let's not get into this argument though people, I'm sure it was only done the other week lol

:)

I don't think it's an argument, but a true statement. Surely applicable to all professions.

I can totally see where you're coming from Robbo as I've been into photography now for about 6 months and am also probably over-critical of some work. Mine's not the best but I'm happy with the way I'm progressing.

I also like the sharp crisp look to photo's but I suppose it's subjective and not everyone has the time for PP.

There have been some really good points on here which I hadn't thought of, such as time constraints and deadlines along with getting a sports shot to tell a story etc.

Thanks for the insight.

I'll just keep practicing on technique and PP and see what happens.:)

Yea there was some great point about the sports bit, as in the research of player etc... Very handy info
