As the title says.
I have a Fuji 100-400 which rarely sees the light of day as I find it a bit heavy to lug round all day, I am considering buying an XC-50-230 as it is so much lighter
I already have the 18-135 so am a being stupid for the extra 100mm, I have done a quick compare and there is a reasonable difference between 135 and 230
I can get the XC from onestopdigital and digital rev for around £200 and if I get one with it then I can sell the 100-400

I'll do you a straight swap - my 50-230 for your 100-400...

More seriously, if you aren't using the 100-400, you might as well chop it in against a 50-230 or sell it to free up some funds BUT the 100-400 is (IME&O) sharper than the lighter lens and also has the weather sealing, not to mention the extra 170mm reach. It'll also take the teleconverters should you want/need even more reach (although it softens up with the 2x telecon.)
I find the 18-135 is nigh on a perfect general purpose walk around lens for the Fujis but does distort a bit at either end (not horrendously but it's noticeable) - the 55-230 is pretty good at 135mm as far as distortions go but does pincushion a bit at the long end.

Are you being stupid? The answer to that depends on several factors, for example:
  • how much use you make of focal lengths between 135mm and 230mm
  • how you feel about having two lenses that overlap so much
  • how much you can afford
  • how much you hate a heavy lens
  • how important image quality is to you
  • how often you need focal lengths longer than 230mm
Spot the common denominator? It's all about you. Nobody can tell you what to do here.

What the same one that is £135 brand new with free delivery with 12 month warranty on e-infin ?

Don't digitalrev have the exacts same deal, i.e 12 months warranty

Thanks for everyones thoughts,I will keep the 100-400 and hire a bearer ( LoL)
