Yes
I live on a terrace with street parking. You have to park where you have to park, wherever its a space. The guy across the road has started parking his large sprinter van outside my house. I've not given its that much though until today. His side of the road was almost completely clear of cars yet he parked outside my house again. I'm wondering if his mrs doesn't want it outside her house. Am i justified in feeling a bit miffed or am i just being Victor Meldrew and should get a life! :)

I used to have a large van myself and i would park it on a side street not outside houses because it takes so much room. They know we have young kids. Just a bit of consideration i'm asking for.

I must be a Victoria Meldrew then as this would pee me off too. :(

I think I'd be miffed too.
Sadly though, I think you've got more chance of plaiting snot than seeing a satisfying outcome to any request made of him. :(

Well its not outside mine everyday so had giving him the benefit of the doubt until i saw him park today and his side being clear. I'm on the third floor so its trying to catch the guy.

I might be a coward and wait until he parks outside someone else's house and leave a note under his wipers. :exit:

Hang on....third floor? Apartment?

No i work on the third floor of my house where i was when i saw him park. Wouldn't be able to get down stairs in time.

Ohhhh OK.
As you were, everyone

Do you "know" the fella at all? Speaking terms?

LOL

No i don't.

They are a bit funny. Both avoid eye contact, so we've not caught eyes to acknowledge each other with a smile or say hello. We have been here 2 years now and have never been any interaction.

I sometimes wish these images were not planted in my brain, mind you could attempting to do that send you to sleep at nights rather than counting sheep?:(

Why not just tell the dude, it would annoy me, but I'd just tell him to park it outside his own house.
Or rent a lorry and start parking outside his house :D

If ti was me, I may try to do an oil service outside his house - unfortunately spilling a litre by accident, and if he said anything, I would just tell him that someone had parked their van outside my house, so I couldn't use that spot.

I'd be miffed too, but there again, you don't own that section of road.

In the grand scheme of things it's not worth bothering about. Smile, and move on with life.

Nah..tried it :(

When parking outside your place, is it on the same side as he's travelling? Seems odd why he doesn't park outside his own place when there's space .

Inconsiderate parking can get annoying. We all have space for one car outside our houses and those of us with a second car park just around the corner where there's no houses until further down. But my neighbour would always park his car outside our house because his wife parked outside their house. He even did it when we had a new born and could see the extra hassle of having to park around the corner and deal with kids, dog, pram gear etc. Prick.

Even more annoying when he'd park the wrong way so he's facing traffic. Made it look like he had raced to get it in just in case I was approaching or something. To top it off it was a new 5 series tourer and seemed like the longest car in the world.

Small consolidation being he was cheating on his wife and is now being divorced so he's not been around for ages. Unfortunately she is selling soon and knowing my luck the family that move in will have five cars.

No he's facing the wrong way. He went past his house and then parked outside mine!

i presume that you don't have your own car to take the space up ,.,we used to have a local tyre slasher that took umbrage at people parking half on the pavements .he used a spring loaded nail punch against the side wall of the tyres on the pavements ,a normal puncture can be repaired side wall damage renders them as scrap .he used to do several turnings a night ,the police were powerless unless they could catch him in the act ,even though they knew who it was they never did

We have a neighbour who has space for 4 cars in the drive he has, but his family still insist on parking out in our street. the other neighbour had a mother who visits all day and parks in space enough for a car and a bus!! . Very inconsiderate. But pointless doing anything. Asked nicely if they would move up for me. #@$/^&$#. Was all I got. .

Thats my pet hate too. My road is a public one, but have always parked outside my house, but when I see anyone parked there I get really annoyed!

It would annoy me too.
Can you get a group of little kids to play outside your house? Give em sticks of chalk & felt tip pens (not indelible though ;) ) it won't take em long.

Ask him if he would like it washed ....ask him for bucket and sponge while he gets it put on speedo's and be very very eager for him to assist in the washing process.....

You will either get you teeth kicked in and a name in the area for yourself or the desired effect is he may well steer well clear of you in the future not wanting to ever have the chance of seeing you again....so will park elsewhere.(y)

I have the same problem with next door, they only have a small car but still choose to park in front of my house even though the street is empty.

I think its sort of depends on the street with stuff like this, does your house exit straight onto the pavement or do you have separation like a front garden area.
If not I would be annoyed a bit as looking out the window into the side of a van would be a dull view, however if it was a bit away it wouldn't bother me, do you have a drive as well?

These sort of things are becoming much more commonplace but there is no point getting stressed, if you really want to make a point then I would park your car in that space for a few weeks and maybe he will just get the subtle hint.

If he'd rather not have it parked there, why would he take measures that would result in the vehicle not being able to move?

It would cause the van driver inconvenience which perhaps would make him think twice about parking there again.

I can understand how you feel because I would probably feel the same. I would be tempted to try and politely approach him, in a friendly manner, to see if you can get him to stop parking there.

We live on a corner house that is on a crossroads. The roads are small side roads but it is used as a shortcut to bypass traffic on two busy roads that run in parallel. Opposite us is a nursery and the amount of people who park straight across the corner and the drop curb, often making it impossible to exit via our front gate is unbelievable. When I approached them about it it would be 'oh i'm only going to be a few minute." and then a few minutes later someone else would be parked in exactly the same spot. it used to pi$$ me off but now I'm pretty blasé to it.

How's this for childish?

the road I live in, is only wide enough to park on one side of the road, ie "double parking all but blocks the road off ( we get buses through here on occasions too)
The guy opposite has 3 vehicles, the people that lived there previously, also had 3 vehicles, and parked all of them on the drive.

We used to be a 3 vehicle household, but the drive is only big enough for 2.
So one used to end up in the road, ( the company van)
He claimed the he couldn't get off his drive if I parked outside my house ( which is total [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER] BTW)
He then took to parking his van in the road opposite my house, so I couldn't, ( ref the double parking) we used to arrive home much about the same time,
I've had him come screaming past me, on the estate road, ( which btw is a series of double bends) so he would arrive first.
I changed jobs, and still had a van, I then finished a lot earlier than he did, so he took to parking his daughters car in the road permanently ( it hardly ever moves) just to be an arse!
If he had brains, he'd be dangerous.

The worse thing he ever did, one day, I arrived well before he did, and parked outside my house.
It was mid winter, and curtains drawn and dark by 4pm.
he usually arrived an hour or two later.

I was upstairs in "My office" with the curtains drawn, but saw blue lights outside.
I looked out and a fire engine was trying to pass, the total f***wit had double parked, not only that,
as I looked out I also saw his house lights being turned off!
Now that is taking f***wittery to the extreme!

Its no longer a problem as I just have the 2 vehicles now, and I manage easily to get on and off the drive, with his car parked opposite.
I guess he thinks he's being clever, by leaving one out in the road. ( and facing the wrong way)
Occasionally our eyes meet, if we are manoeuvring at the same time, I just point and laugh.
I guess that p***es him off even more.

I'm sure if a car is pointing the wrong way when night falls then it becomes illegal?

I would have thought the same TBH, but Its parked almost under a street lamp, I *think* that cancels it out ..
I could be wrong of course ..

edit a quick google ...

Rule 248
You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

I did not know this!

I would suggest that its to do with the reflectors on the back of the car, showing up in the headlights, especially if its a "dark" area.
I see loads of cars around and about facing the wrong way, so I guess the police don't bother enforcing it.
I also guess if you hit a stationary car, that's parked the wrong way, at night, you wouldn't be liable, but I'm certainly am not rushing out to test that theory :D

Good luck getting the police to do anything about that though.
It's right up there with parking half on a pavement or to close to a junction.

They park on blind bends here too!

There has only been one accident that I'm aware of, involving a stationary vehicle,
Joy riders came round a bend, at some ridiculous speed, hit a parked car and it was just like potting the black apparently, they shot the parked car some yards down the road,
and it was "in off" off another car, and ended up in someone front garden :D

Aye I reckon it's to do with the reflectors. Chancers also try it on with skips because at night they must have cones and lights around them. Very impractical because they just get nicked but then that can also be the defence!

I think it may be a bad idea just telling him not to park outside your house.

However, if you had a good reason as to why you need to park outside your house, and appealed to his better nature - that is how I would handle the situation.
