I've been trying to find a pre-owned example of one of these for a while now, with no luck at all. Nothing on ebay, wanted ads on here, all to no avail.

So it's either stump up for a new one, which Im more reluctant to do, or consider alternatives.

Having researched, my feeling was that for the money the Tokina was well ahead of any rivals, but are there any alternatives I've missed that warrant serious consideration or should I just be patient and wait?

Sigma 10-20
Sigma 12-24

there are those but i have heard good things about the Tokina. bit of a tricky one

Sigma make a 10-20mm, not quite the same range but they are pretty good lens. Wayne

:(Depends on what range you want but the Tokina 11-16 is supposed to be even better, according to Uncle Ken.
I think I've only ever seen one of these s/h on ebay at about £339.
The 12-24 does come up infrequently and generally goes for £210+:(

Thanks all.

11-16 is a bit wide as my next lens starts at 28, whereas 12-24 only leaves a small gap.

I'd happily pay 210 for a nice example, just cant find one!!

That's what your feet and ingenuity are for. You'll always win from going for the best optics you can rather than the best focal length coverage.

is this suitable for a full fame slr ie d3

I was about to ask that very same question. Which of these are FX (I know the Sigma 10-20 isn't); and I will need something for wideangle shots (don't fancy going with the 14-24 AF-S).

As far as I know, the only supermegamonsterwide zoom for the full frame folks is the Siggy 12-14.

Sadly it's pretty woeful but on the other hand if you have a great need to shoot at 12mm, then it's invaluable and the IQ is going to be acceptable if it gets you shot you can't do otherwise.

12mm on a full frame really is frighteningly wide though.

For what it's worth...

A fellow tog lent me the Sigma 10-20 to take a few shots - seriously unimpressed...

I bought the Tokina....seriously impressed - so sharp it's scary - and with less distortion than my Nikkor 18-70

I know it's a bit pricy...but damn is it a good lens!!!

Me and a mate have been considering which lens to get, the Sigma 12-24 or the Tokina. Following a lot of info trawling we have gone for the Tokina and my good mate has informed my wife that this lens would make a great surprise xmas present for me! Roll on xmas day.

Does the Tokina AF on a D60?

It doesn't AF but it's not something i am concerned about although it would be handy
