Alternative to Cactus ?

If you only want to have a dabble at it, then i would consider these:

i have a set. Never done any harm to me, only the odd miss fire but that is it and tbh for the price of them i could live with it. Some may moan and say why are you buying cheaper versions dont waste your money but i say give it ago. Get the equipment you can afford and enjoy taking photos.

Dont these only work on studio lights that have a jack-plug socket? What type are needed to plug into a 580 ex II for instance with a PC socket?

Have a look around for the newer CTR-301's. They are a newly designed ebay jobby that seem to be getting some good reviews. I've had mine about a month, and they work flawlessly. I am getting 1/200 sync speed, around 125 - 130 feet distance with no misfires or phantom fires. They have an added Optical sensor aswell so are great if you are using them with studio lights. I would sya they are well worth a look.

I'm looking to have a dabble with off camera flash and wondered if this might be an alternative to buying the cactus triggers from abroad

Any cheaper alterntive UK based solutions also appreciated

TIA

You're as well buying the Cactus ones if it's just to have a wee play around, failing that spend a bit more and go for a set of Skyports.
