Alternative @ to 000webhost

I have an account with 000webhost. Web site works fine, but email is unreliable to the point that I feel like a lottery winner when I can log in with no problem. 8/10 times the server is shown as under maintenance :/

Now then, based on your experience, what is the best free email account host where I could use my own domain name?

Also, can I keep my website domain on 000webhost and email account with the same domain with other provider?

I use 000webhost for my hosting and Google apps for my email, works just fine (for me and my massive 10ish hits a day).

Was very easy to set up also, just follow the instructions on google.
