My boi is 3 next month and I've asked him what he wants for his birthday! His answer....... A camera!

Now daddy thinks a shockproof , waterproof , crush proof mini brick sounds good!

It's to keep him from using daddies SLR! ( I kid you not)

What yA reckon for a £150 budget?

I was thinking more of a nikon AW series as he is always using my slr and shoots with me already

My experience with my own daughter is that I personally wouldn't contemplate giving a child something that isn't large and brightly coloured and nigh on indestructible (and relatively cheap, and not very stealable). If nothing else, they are easy to find and don't slip down into awkward places that a compact camera would in the hands of an easily distractible child.
I'm sure the Nikon would be a decent camera though.

I agree with Andy. My experience is that little kids want to do what you do, even if you got an SLR your 3 y.o. would still want to use YOUR SLR. When my lad was that sort of age I bought him a toy chainsaw that looked exactly like a miniature version of mine because he was always wanting to have a go with mine. He was disappointed that the toy wouldn't cut wood and hardly ever played with it.

If you really want a working camera buy a beat up second-hand bridge and let him trash that. If you are convinced a tough is the way to go the Olympus Tough cameras are pretty good and robust in my experience.

£150 For a 3yr old?? i'm sorry to say I wouldn't be paying out that sort of money on a proper camera for a 3 yr old........ but V-tech is very good, there is also other brands etc
just my opinion

Yup, best go for something designed to be in kids hands. I'd head off down to Toys r us. We got my nieces kids cameras there and they had a good choice at the time.

Canon d10. Waterproof to 10m, shockproof, works well for a small compact and is attractive to kids and takes great images. Only drawback is the zoom range.

Otherwise how about a canon 400D or Nikon equivalent if you're a nikon user. I started my youngest on a very cheap slr with kit lens (although he was 7), or maybe a cheap compact camera.

How about something like a nikon coolpix - £70
