Hmm … I’ve been on Apple since (about) 2015. And I have certainly used a credit/debit card directly on Apple a good few times, including Apple subscriptions for extra storage.
That's probably why you've been 'validated'.

Beginning to lose my patience! I don't have a credit card and it won't recognise my driving licence!
I had to hover over SHMBO's licence for quite a time, both sides.

26.4 is causing some minor issues on my phone. Apart from the Fitbit App issue there have been a number of ‘freezes’ and ‘glitches’. Hopefully there will be another update soon!

Just been through the whole verification thing which proved to be a complete nightmare.

I don't have a credit card haven't done for over 20 years vile things. They won't accept debit card or passport just U.K driving licence.

Problem is that in Northern Ireland according to Apple anyway our licence is slightly different to the normal U.K one although that doesn't sound right to me and I can't find any mention of it online so it would not accept my licence apparently has already been raised as an issue and they are working on it.

It also mentions a a national I.D card which we also don't have in the U.K

Eventually phoned support and they did it for me as I have an Apple Account that is over 20 years old.

Surprised this isn't a big news story to be honest as the Apple discussion boards are full of posts about people having issues and also it is not yet a legal requirement for Apple to be doing this in the U.K yet.

Some people have been able to use a passport by scanning the same side twice. The same caveats apply about sufficient light and placing it on a dark background apply.

We do, but there's a price and a waiting list. Might be better for some than going the Android route.

Interesting because Apple told me themselves that there was no way for a passport to be accepted. They can accept passports from other countries they said but not the U.K.

They also said they were aware that the U.K had no national identity card. That is there because it is available elsewhere.

It's possible that the people on Reddit that have said that passports and the CitizenCard have worked are trolls or bots.

Here's the thread:

And here's a Mac Observer article on the subject:

Wife and I have one each but we pay it off automatically every month.

It's more secure than a debit card, because the limit being exceeded should block the card. Moreover, the crooks can't get access to our main accounts through it.

I know how a credit card works :D and have no need for one.

I assumed you do.

I was describing why we find one useful,

Nice to see apple have done a universal update to 18. Getting it now. Haven't touched 26 as it looks like a hot mess from a usability point of view.
