The amount of spam in this section of the forum is ridiculous, I have reported it. I did make a post in the Help and Supports section of the forum. I got a message after I posted it. It said " Awaiting moderation before being displayed publicly". But a new spam account can post freely without their first post being held, for Moderation!

These spammers always find a way round whatever walls are built. Could be time to start moderating first 2 or 3 posts per new member.

The Mods have to sleep at some point!

It would make sense to moderate a new members post, to at least the first few. I did make a post in the help section of this forum this morning, a message notified me that my post would be "Held For Moderation". I obviously understand why this is done, in the help section. Just in case we report a bug etc, and broadcast it for anyone to read it. But it shows it is possible, for posts to be held for moderation.

Take off the tinfoil hat mate... EVERY post that is made in Site Help goes into the moderation queue as I explained in my reply to your post.

exactly - and as these people are on the Indian Subcontinent, they're perfectly positioned time-wise to get into their office, clock on, and start posting a couple of hours before we wake up on a sunday.

OK, I most certainly will do. Thanks for your time.

Discussing what can and can't be done by the staff simply gives them tools to work around any countermeasures so I don't really want to get into a detailed discussion. However, All the spam was left by a small number of accounts, and were dealt with in under 5 minutes - indeed, the longest job was actually collating the reports by the early-shift of members that were piled up in the staffroom :)

Our Countermeasures stopped far more than got through, and we'll continue tweaking them, but, yes, it's a brute-force attack - there's a room full of these people somewhere out there, and until I wake up on a Sunday, they do get a little busy.

One thing I've seen on another forum is a facility for members to flag posts as spam, after a number of "votes" have been registered, then the post disappears into a moderation queue. I'd love it if that facility was available on here - might go have a look at the Xenforo website and see if there's a plugin for that particular moderation tool...

right - I'm away now for a bite of breakfast - i'll wipe out any more spam that happens in the meantime when I return from wiping out some bacon, scrambled eggs, mushrooms and toast...

And a well-deserved breakfast it is also. After all the c**p you have to put up with on here, and a certain few of us too. :$

to be honest, I'm thinking that there's not much to be said for astrology...

if there was any validity in it, you'd think they'd realise that the banhammer was on it's way and just not bother posting, wouldn't you...

They must be on piece work rates!

Maybe the mods should do nightshifts.:D:banana::exit:

The flagging system does work to an extent. But is open to abuse (not likely on here) where gangs will attack one members posts with false flagging. Bloody petty I know.

Also would this flag system be available in the tap talk app? I use it 95% of the time to visit the forums.

you need to create some mini mods, not those green hoodie wearing tossers with scooters but some folk that have mini power to just press the hide button to await moderation decision.

It seems to me to be a lot of fuss over nothing. I often see spam early in the morning a quick note to the mods and it's soon gone. I don't see the need to moderate new members posts for what is very little inconvenience.
