hi all,
i`m after getting a new tripod and want one that would cover most situations.
i`v found this http://www.jessops.com/online.store/products/76228/show.html
would this be a good option?
i like the fact you can spread the legs right out so it will go realy low.
has anyone got one?? or is there better for the same sort of money?
thanks chris.

You do know that the tripod you've linked doesn't come with a head? So you'd have to buy one as well.

nice to see everyone`s as helpful as usual:bang:

Second vote for Redsnapper, awesome quality and value!!!

Manfrotto 190PROB isn't that much more expensive but the ability to use the centre column horizontally is very useful.

the Giottos is solidly built, i have a 9361B.

But once you add a good solid head, it is a lot of weight to carry around with you. If weight isn't an issue the flexibility of the tripod and the shorter centre piece is great.

another vote for redsnapper, my first proper tripod and its simply amazing. they have an offer with a free head atm.

Manfrotto 190XPROB with a 496RC2 Ball Head.

I would recommend the Giottos as well - I've The Giottos MTL9351B which is virtually the same as the manfrotto (as in the "horizontal" columm) but the Giotto carry's a less £'s price tag

Got mine with a Giotto ball head head from WE for under £99...

Looking at the specification, as supplied with a long centre column, the minimum height is 26 cm. So to get the best out of its ability to spread the legs out wide and to get really low you'll need to add a short centre column ... unless you fancy reversing the column and shooting with the camera upside down.

I'm pretty new to tripods myself but when I went shopping (2nd hand) for a lightweight tripod the one I got just happened to have a short column (not the standard one). So I then got a short column for my - even lighter (carbon fibre) - travelling tripod that has four sections and collapses to be very short indeed.

Now for a lightweight head ... I think I've settled on the Manfrotto 496, as the others that are around 300 g in weight are all much more expensive. If anyone out there has a recommendation for a lightweight head that's not too expensive, I'd be glad to hear about it. (I have a Redsnapper ballhead and it is great but just a bit to heavy too lug around on a backpack with all the other gear.)
