A good friend was asking me for a good all round camera and to be honest i didn't know what to suggest other than the fuji s-x1, his main priorities are image quality,a decent zoom, good macro and if possible at least 5fps.I really couldn't think of anything else in a smaller package.
any suggestions?

All depends what 'decent zoom' means. If you are thinking XS-1 I am guessing you have some idea that he means massive zoom?
Other than the massive zoom there are lots of alternatives and really depends what money he wants to spend and what size he wants, (compact, bridge, CSC etc,.)

advanced compact or bridge, he doesn't want the hassle of changing lenses and doesn't have to be a mega zoom just something more than a x3/4//5

5fps suggests action subjects. No CSC can focus-track anything that moves faster than a snail, you need phase-detect AF to have any chance, ie a DSLR. Nikon 1 Series is the best CSC at focus-tracking (with hybrid AF) but it's nowhere near as good as a DSLR.

My camera at the mo', but not done any real world hi-speed shooting (even with Tracking on).
Can't get much more decent than 26x optical zoom, with 2x intelligent zoom that does seem to be very high quality compared to digital zooms on my previous Panny FZs, which to be fair, were positively ancient by comparison.
At the right price, it's a cracking buy, but it's not going to re-write the rules of photography.

Depending on his budget, and other factors, he could do worse than look at the Pentax K-30 with it's £50 cashback until 15th Jan, and a long lens to partner the kit one - make sure it's the WR version.
Pentax have their own 55-300mm lens, but there's others from Sigma/Tamron/Tokina to be had pre-owned at a fair price.

In manual mode, the Fuji hits a weird design brickwall - highest aperture of f11 is only able to dial in 4 sec shutter time, before going to bulb mode.
Compared to a 6 yo Panny FZ50, which was good for f11 with 30 sec max.

So it'll all depend on which compromises are liveable with, and which kill the notion of going for a specific package, stone dead.

Yes thanks I've said there's no camera that will do all you want hence I have 3 as I've no doubt most have, the x-s1 being one. It does a great job and imo is the best bridge out there but it won't do it all.

well he's bought an x-s1 £329 new condition 2 extra batteries, filter, and a case so i think he got a bargain and a dam good camera for that price

That's about right, which means he won't lose much if he decides it isn't for him or to go full bore on the DSLR front in six months or so's time.
