Yes
Guess it was bound to happen sooner or later but had my first confrontation last night.

Was out with a mate in George Square last night and whilst photographing a Christmas tree we were slated by a bunch of youths no older than 15 and they said that all photographers are perverts!!! Well, I don't know about you but a Christmas tree really doesn't do it for me in that way so I can't quite make sense of it lol

Was already angry at my D1X's feeble attempts at matching my mate's D700 in the p**sing rain at night but this just took the biscuit. Granted they were just a bunch of local scum neds and obviously ill-educated but seriously, where do they get the minerals to be so brash to adults?

What a sad state of affairs especially when considering such a sweeping generalisation would also mean that their parents are also perverts for all those family photos taken :cuckoo: We got the last word as my mate flipped his id out and told them to sod off so to speak (ahem) but honestly, what's next - mass witch-hunting of photographers? Ironically, all the adults in the area where really friendly and even posing for photos! lol

Welcome to the club.....we daren't point the camera near a window in our house never mind outside without being confronted by mindless yobs, which is a shame because there is a lovely litle robin often sits outside on the fence
:(

Its just a sign of the times I think.
I was walking along the street in Dundee the other evening with my wife. Three lads of about 15 came straight towards me, One stuck out his chest & arms Rambo style & walked straight at me. I just kept walking & when we hit I hit him with such a thump that when I looked round he was holding his shoulder & moaning about it being sore! Interesting thing was his mates were laughing at him. They are not all bad.

Well if you aren't doing drugs getting drunk and abusing your fellow school colleagues and passers by then you must be, welcome to the hell that is kids world. Short of some serious clamping down and respect earning on their part it will get worst for sure but when parent are providing them with everything they desire without any hardship on their part to earn it and allowing them to roam streets to all hours behaving like this we can expect nothing less I feel. Not all are like that though I'm glad to say, phew!! thought I'll better add that ;)

Nothing wrang with being Brash!!!!:D

Know what you mean about these type of scroats though. Need a good stiff DM up the jacksie:thumbs::thumbs:

And here they are!!!

Street Trash

The fat one in stripes was the one who started the nonsense. Perhaps he knew that stripes aren't flattering and didn't want a photo taken hehe

Now now. They are victims of society! They need to be understood & given special "treats".

He did (mentioned in op) and the two in hoods ended up wanting a posed photo but we told them to b****r off as they'd had their chance. They knew all too well there's little that can be done against them :(

I think a D1x headache would have been in order.

i was out working one night when a bunch of teenagers walked by taking th 'P' we ignored them at first untill they said the same thing.. all photographers were perverts!! so i shouted out, 'Dont walk away.. come back and pull your trousers down!!' anyway, they carried on walking and i did my fly back up..

When the kids come out from school is the time most bus drivers hate.

Ha ha ha. Watch them run away.

I renew calls for people interested in joining my new vigilante group. gman, haven't seen you for ages but you're normally a pretty calm guy so for someone to **** you off it must have been something. I think when it's coming from local scum you should just brush it off as nonsense, which it is.

Wee wido dicks maaan.

I actually saw some tog's doing a shoot with a model at G.Sq on Wednesday night. It was about -4 but off they went, strobe and battery pack kicking.

Was it you?

Nah, wasn't me unfortunately! hehe

Not really fused about the kids, they'll go nowhere in life and we had our bags tugged in jest a few times that night but fairly friendly though. What got to me is that they are learning this opinion from somewhere and they don't strike me as the sort who read newspapers or watch the news - so I'm guessing it's their parents?

I was doing some street photography the other day in Liverpool. Each Thursday they put on Xmasy stuff. The last one they had a giant Xmas pudding going around hugging people. Some random 15yr old looking girl got a hug and had a laugh with their mates. Made for a nice photo. "Ehhhh looook its a p***!" Gotta laugh it off and keep shooting.

What say we all chip in and buy ourselves "Photography Island" somewhere warm and sunny and go live there in peace and harmony free from the narrow minded, ignorant, nanny state, pc gone mad, yada, yada...

Move to India with me, photography is not an issue.

Yet the giant pudding which is making physical contact receives no abuse! Seriously, I can't understand people's logic sometimes, although I've probably answered my own question - they don't have any logic! lol

BTW, giant pudding, wtf?

Or even better, all chip in and buy a cold and damp island where the narrow minded, ignorant, nanny state, pc gone mad, yada, yada...can go an live and then the rest of us can live in peace and harmony! :D

Well I was hugging lots of small (and some not so small) children in the street on Saturday. Not one person complained.

I was dressed in a big red suit with white trimming and a long white beard though.

I'm surprised you weren't lynched! Everyone knows santa is a bigger perv than photographers!! :D

Gotta say I've never had any such comments, and the teens hereabouts (while not angels) have never been rude and many give a hearty 'Hi' as they move out of the way

Perhaps villages, even small rough ex mining ones, just don't have the same issues as bigger places do?

Great I'm off to George Square this week sometime. Can't wait to meet the locals.

I'm not defending these teenagers. Having a go for no good reason is plain wrong regardless of age.
However given that 74% off all media coverage about teenagers is negative but only 4% of teenagers are actively aggressive or antisocial (National Statistics Authority) its no wonder that some of them want to have a go sometimes. It may appear to be for no reason (and I'm sure you didn't deserve any c%^p from anybody, whoever) but when people get pee'd off for being slated by others all the time they aren't exactly going to respect anybody.

Adults will never get respect from teenagers until they get a little respect themselves. It works both ways IMO.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you deserved any abuse or inadvertently brought it on yourselves - far from it. I'm just saying that if adults stopped giving teenagers a hard time across the country there would be a few less pee'd off teenagers about who don't have any respect for anyone or anything. I'm sure there will be a few who don't agree with what I've said here but I've worked with some as the nastiest teenagers from the worst places as a photographer and trust me, it really does work both ways.

Still.......... in your case they did sound like gits. :)

Surprised you got away with even touching children let alone hugging them as most Santa's are not allowed to touch these days even in the presence of their parents and if the parents request it

I think my generation is to blame. (Not The Who song!) I'm in my early 40's and have kids from 8 the early 20's. I was born in the 60's when respect was seen as something that got in the way of a good time.
Somehow we seem to have bought a generation into the world who are very selfish and materialistic. I don't care what the office of national statistics say, they, statistically have been wrong more than they are right. Where did they carry out their investigation to get 4%? Surrey?
People of my age are to blame I'm afraid. Add to the break up in families (which I have contributed to) the removal of Corporal punishment (which I received in abundance), the Golden age of credit (which I have definitely contributed to) where kids get what they want, when they want, and access to all the rubbish on the 'innernet'.
They are going to be less respectful, less caring about others and more vociferous to anyone they want because there are no boundaries any more. Can't remember the last time I saw a 20 a side footy match on the park or kids playing British Bulldog or 'Kick can' (names varied throughout the land).
They are encouraged to grow up before they have learned to be kids properly. Having to deal with family breakdown etc. forces the issue for them.
As for being called names by the little tykes, just ask them to spell what name they are calling you. That tends to shut them up.
Thinking about it maybe that Who song is to blame. "WHY DON'T YOU ALL F F F F F fade away!"

they feel 'brash when in numbers but are not when alone.
thats more of a reason when i do shots in town i tend to have a mate with me. 1 person looks dosgy but generally 2 or more and people dont think twice.

But i have the peaks on my doorstep and when i go int the peaks no one batters an eyelid when taking pics of stuff even when doing candids of village life.
I think its the parents and the cotton wool society they are bring into force. dont get in to cars with strangers is good advice, every man and his camera could be a pervert is not!

We have large fountains that kids run in and out of in summer sometimes in bathing cosumes and the really young ones can sometimes be naked giving their parents the run around- it may not be the same parents but i want to tell them to keep their children clothed as it makes me uncomfortable in doing something i would like to do.

I hate kids, end of story!

Aye but, Nae but, If you'd offered them a bottle o buckie they'd be.....

See them Photographers, by ra way, there a right by ra way, there no perverts by ra way:lol:

:coat:

Indeed it does work both ways, but adults do not hang around on the streets hurling verbal abuse at teenagers. I appreciate that we should show respect to any other human being, not matter what age, but that respect has to be earned and it is earned by simple decent human behaviour.

You have just given me an idea.....

I don't want this to degenerate into an adults verses teenagers topic but... adults can be just a bad as teenagers for hurling verbal abuse. As 1 example, it can (often) be seen anywhere around a football stadium on a Saturday afternoon. Most adults behave respectfully but some don't, just like teenagers.

Anyway, moving on. :)

Neither did I. Just pointing out both sides of the argument.

Moving on... ;)

You're still way to young to hurl abuse at teenagers, you can still remember being one!

Shhhh, i have a 40 year old mind trapped inside a 25 year olds body! Best of both worlds!

I hate teenagers. I wasnt like that 10 years ago. Its amazing how much times have changed in such a short space of time!
