Just seen it was also written in first post here from Rob

downloaded and installed on my i-mac in less than 5 minutes ,tried out one shot but its a bit harsh .worth a play for what it cost though .:help:

Paid for Silver FX Pro2 a while back, well worth the money in my opinion, got the rest free some time later, I use sharpener pro 2 when printing find it very good also Dfine is useful for noise reduction.

I bought the original Nik version a few years back and it was well worth the money for SFX Pro back then so for free it is a must have.

It's rubbish, can't be good if it's free or included already in a product.

Anyone know of a good plugin I don't need for about £200
I've got a fully licensed Nik software copy well before Google bought it. You know the original good version. It's rare now, so how about £499?

Well I've just had an email saying my payment form when I brought it in January has been refunded quite happy about that only really used silver fx but its very good although my aim is to be able to create the effects in Photoshop in time

Great software, even better price - Silver Efex is the best B&W conversion tool I've personally tried - nice move google :)

What I'm finding funny (well not for Google) are the bitchers and whiners on the forum that complain about it not working in Corel or on Chromebook!

I sort of get about people complaining that they paid, but if it was worth the money when you got it why is it suddenly not? Still envy is natural I guess.

True to their word then and that was fast!

I've downloaded it but it won't let me install, keeps telling me to close photoshop.exe which isn't even open :( I've had nothing but trouble since "upgrading" to Win 10.

Jim, check your processes (right click the task bar and click on task manager) - look to the details tab and check for photoshop.exe and right click - end process tree.

Ok thanks John, will try, but would that even be running from a fresh start?

Most shots will look 'harsh' initially as the software dials up all the preset settings to max so you get a flavour. Dial it down. Your options are limitless. Tinker, tinker and tinker some more! Play around with it for a few days/weeks, read and watch the tutorials, read the cheap Ebay books. Lots of great information out there on Nik.

I'd urge everyone to watch the tutorials I linked to, especially how control points work. Very powerful. As well as the Nik videos there are lots done by other folk.

In addition to the tutorials I linked to earlier there are a few books on the various Nik plugins. This one is very good on SEP2. Dramatic Black and White Photography Using Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 You'll see he's written books for other Nik plugins.

Still have the same problem, I'm mystified!

I'll happily whine if big companies release products that are not cross platform.

Just downloaded & installed (added to PSE 10) 6 mins download & 2 mins installation.(y)

I Already had older versions of Colour Efex pro & HDR Effex, but always wanted to try the Silver effex.

Thanks for the heads up, Rob.

I'm guessing I'm the only one where a non running photoshop.exe file is preventing installation [emoji45]

Restart, check your permissions, check the log files and try it again.

Done that :/

Also Task manager shows no conflicting processes running despite the software reporting otherwise?

I'm off to get a hammer...

I don't think this is necessarily a Win10 thing. I'm finding that it's the non Microsoft software where the developer has changed their product to ruin as a background app. All sorts of crap seems to be doing this now. I've had dormant software I'd forgotten about pop it's head up and try to get my attention - it's generally getting the uninstall attention as a result.

Good software.
I bought the suite a few years ago.
It gives me better results than Lightroom alone on images I want a little more from.
Loads of tutorials on youtube making it easy to get up to speed with.

Can you install it without installing it as a plugin? Which version of Photoshop do you have?

It could be windows 10 that's the issue?

It says;

  • Windows Vista®, Windows 7, Windows 8
  • Adobe Photoshop CS4 through CC 2015
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 through 13 (apart from HDR Efex Pro 2, which is not compatible with Photoshop Elements)
  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 through 6/CC

No that's the issue, I'm running the setup and it won't progress past the initial phase.

It's an old one, CS3, but I'd be running this with LR 4.4.

I did wonder.

Is anyone using Win10 without issues?

I think the fact your running CS3 may be your issue as it says CS4 upwards

Yes but I'm not loading up CS3, nothing from it is active when the message comes up, it's simply lying dormant on the HD.

Installed no problems on two Win10 machines, both with LR & PS CC

Strange, just completed a 'hot' reset rather than a power down and now it seems to be working? Got to love PCs.

I didn't have PS Elements open, Jim, but it came up in an option box automatically. Obviously knows what I have installed.

I thought about that too and I was in the verge of uninstalling it but now it seems to be installing ok against LR. Hopefully it'll run ok!

Edit - yep all working well and liking what I'm seeing :)

Running fine on my Win10 and CS5. Will be an interesting addition to my Topaz collection - certainly good value for money

Already own the software from when NIK where in charge.
Cannot understand some of the comments like "It must be finishing" It's Rubbish" etc etc.
It's FREE!! what else do people want?
