It seems I am missing a wide angle lens from my line up.
I have a 240mm and a 180 which are both great but sometimes not wide enough.

What I want is advice on fine quality lenses in the range of 90mm to 120mm.

I shoot colour so that is something that must be taken into consideration.

Sadly, there is a dearth of good condition wide angle lenses of the market right now. The lens will be used in a Toyo 45A.

I'm confused. Are there too many zeros in the op?

Are you looking for a 90mm to 120mm lens or are you adding zeros and really looking for a 9-12mm?

Put your question better and probably in the film section.

I've just seen this thread - I usually assume it's all digital here :)

For those unacquainted with LF, the usual standard focal length for 4x5 is 150mm, meaning focal lengths are about 3 times those of 35mm. It's slightly misleading as 5x4 is much squarer than the long 35mm frame, but it's the most common standard.

As far as I know, the widest lens to cover the format is 46m or 47mm. The caveat here is whether the camera bellows will compress enough to allow infinity focus. Bag bellows are usually needed, or a recessed lens board. The latter may cause problems by interfering with the cable release.

Other focal lengths commonly encountered are 65mm, 75mm and then we get to 90mm.

The requirement for colour makes a more modern lens probably a better bet, but modern wide angles can be expensive - at least, I think a 110mm Symmar XL at around £2000 is expensive compared to (say) £3-400 for an older 90mm.

I don't know how wide you want to go, but I'll stick my neck out and suggest a Super Symmar XL 110m lens, as at least two people here have one.

I have seen one for sale recently in a UK dealers, so possibly no need to incur import charges from ebay.

The answer, as always, is "it depends". I no longer shoot 5x4 but when I did it was all commercial work and the need for wide angle was rare, but of course different people have different needs.

I had a F90 f/5.6 Super-Angulon that I used on my Sinar P2 with a bag bellows, and that was always enough for me. The image area was large enough to allow for very limited camera movements, and I went for that lens because of that - from memory there were one or two wider lenses available, but the image area only just covered without movements.

I use a Nikon 90mm f/8, light and compact compared to its 5.6 sibling and a big image circle for movements. Only minus is that the ground glass gets a bit dark but I've actually used it indoors without much trouble. For reference I use a 150mm Sironar S for my main lens and the 90mm holds up to it.

The 150 XL should be perfect, equivalent to a 75mm on 4x5

OR

The Nikkor SW 120mm f8

OK, sorry. I lashed the thread up.
It's a small format camera 4'X5" film.

OK, so for 4x5 my favourite wide angle is my Nikkor 75mm. Depending on camera and how close you can get the front and rear standards, and access to bag bellows you can get 65, 58 and even 47mm
