weekly aljazzera's 52 week challenge week 52 BUSY added

excellent shot, love it

Straight- It is, and good composition.
Letter - lovely lighting on 2nd version.
Contrast - As others have said, bang on theme

Desperately playing catch up, so sorry it's brief!

Straight - Great idea, nicely done.
Letter - Oh dear! Tenuously on theme... much prefer the second shot, lovely lighting.
Contrast - Yummy. Lovely colour, zebras make wonderful subjects.

Hi Allan

Contrast....wonderful...love it love it love it....that I could see large on an acrylic type mount....:clap:

Straight - definitely on theme, nice shot, good dof and perspective. Like the reflection in the body of the guitar.

Letter - I like both, for different reasons!! I like the link with 'Dee', its a bit different and thats what we are about isnt it?!?! #2 is good too, bit more obvious ;-) nice and simple. Agree with the comments that 1 letter would be ok.

Contrast - brilliant

Saw it on my phone and was drawn to it. Nice and close, well composed and exposed, with nice detail.

I just keep getting drawn to the neck lower right. I had a quick crop but removing the neck really spoils it.

Cheers.

Very interesting theme option, works very well as it is IMO.

Fantastic Alan
I really like this and agree, cropping the head or including more of it isn't required IMHO. The eye is on a third and the composition is fine as it is. It is bang on theme, lovely detail in the eye, eyelash, and hair.
It is one that should be printed very large and hung on your wall. All round great work. Iain

Great shot. The close in view has helped accentuate the theme as well.

Great photo. I like it.

Thank you all

Really struggling with this, when I first saw the theme it sounded interesting but it turns out to be really difficult. So I have 2, ones a cheat as it was taken in March in Durham and one from tonight, first the one from tonight...

Silver is a mineral sometimes it seems.

Again some rocks are minerals some are made up of minerals but are ultimately rocks it's very confusing

Hi Allan, Mineral - Nice pics - I prefer the second.
According to my rules - "animal, mineral or vegetable?" Both shots certainly are definitely mineral!

PS
Just noticed your contrast. Absolutely super shot and great interpretation of the theme.

have replaced the bracelet shot with one a bit lighter it was way too dark hope this is better

Hi

Letter - I like the coloured letters and it doesn't bother me that there are 2. good comp and good direction of light. Also a good choice of colours for the letters.

Contrast - i agree with the high commendations for this shot. On theme and very very good

Mineral - #2 for me. Very interesting subject and on theme. Good variety of colours helps make the shot. A tad dark at the top perhaps.

no. 2 for me, very unusual

I'll go with the flow, #2 very nice image.

I think I'll go with #2 just because it has a lot to look at on it. I like #1 it would make a good product shot but I keep going back to #2!!:):)

Hello

#1, not an easy one to compose, I suspect. Very interesting and intricate piece of jewlery. Looses a little sharpness towards the rear and there are a few white specks on the lower part of the black BG.....on my screen :anyway thinking:

#2,
Again some rocks are minerals some are made up of minerals but are ultimately rocks it's very confusing
...heck..that confused me :D Not as good as #1, feels a bit busy but a very interesting assortment of rocks.

Cheers.

Hi Allan

That 2nd image for mineral is most unusual & well shot , so muc to look at & some great colors
Liking your 1st image as well , to me not so obvious on the theme but like you say Silver can be mineral , I'd be more than happy with the lighting , good detail in the colored bits , def a great product type image as Sarah mentioned

Mineral - #2 is the best fo me. Interesting!!!! Silver definitely on theme.

Dark - simple and effective and right on themem. Nice capture of the smoke, very delicate

OOOoooo, really liking the ghostly smoke. Nice grainy processing and composition is good.

There's a wisp of smoke top right which could do with cloning out and couple of hot spots on the candle.

Overall, well done.

Cheers.

That works very well! Good timing on getting the smoke right, nice composition and as Alex said, simple and effective.

Nice interpretation of DARK. Good idea on that!

As others have said a good simple and well executed shot on theme!!:):)

Thank you everyone

Not noticed the wisp of smoke will have another look. It was really hard to get the exposure right did some pp but couldn't get rid of the hotspots. Not 100% happy with it but I dont think I would get it any better with the limited facilities.

I know how hard it is to get smoke, especially if you need to get the lighting correct on the candle - very well done, :) it's a great shot.

I can't see any extra wisps of smoke either. I think some folk have super quality HD devices to view the pics and they show up stuff that is not there on ordinary monitors (see my dark thread).

Great, creative take on the theme Allan
The use of negative space works well. A simple subject but it tells a story for me, good work. iain

Time for a new watch

Time by allanhowe, on Flickr

I am always ruining watches in work so I only buy cheap ones this ones now on its way to the scrapheap.

Hi Allan

Liking your Dark image lots...you caught the smoke just right.....a big  from me...a simple image well executed

Time.....like the image for lighting & being on theme :) Sort of feel the same as Michael but I'd go a little further n possibly crop to only show 1/2 the face with the hands may be at 8:45 or 09:50...maybe thats my OCD kicking in though

I'm going to buck the trend and say I really like the crop. I think it works well. One minor crit is the green reflection at the top but I do like the oof background.

lol very apt - couldn't be more so  Now I will agree with Lynne and say I'd like to see more symmetry with the watch face. have you tried it with a black background?

Thanks for the crit I have tried different crops but wasn't really happy with them, not really happy with the pic to be honest, but feel I have spent enough time on it. Haven't tried a black bg but then I have used black on a few pics so I fancied a change.

All valid points and will take them on board Thank you everyone.

Dark - Well timed catching the right amount of smoke, and lighting just moody enough
Time - Would like to have seen half the face, cropped just right of 12 with hands in shot. Tis on theme. Def need a new front glass:lol:
