weekly aljazzeras 2013 52-week 52 WATER added COMPLETE

Hi Ya

yup , a bit of minimalism going off there which works a treat , great use of DOF , beautifully sharp with great detail on the Rock & its inhabitants

I like the desat of the background , not sure if it's that or the DOF that's created patches that almost make the bg look painted ?

Great colours on the rocks captured there, toned down BG works well, like the echo of the other rock in the BG too.

like it!

It is a rock!! Good colours Allan.

I might be tempted to crop a bit lower so the top of the main rock has been chopped off. This might then create a really weird abstract texture image.

+1 for this. Exactly what I was going to say.

Hi Allan,
I never got to comment on rock during the week it was posted but just to say I like it. You've chosen a bold crop, it accentuates the subject, really concentrating the viewers eye on the colour and detail.
I might have been tempted to take some off the top as it is a little tight but other than that

Another quick off the mark with this weeks theme
I like the low key effect you've went for in the lighting, leaving just enough detail in there. The negative space also works well.

Good work!

oh I really like this. A pair of pears :)

As Iain said, lovely low key image with a real mood to it.

Hi Ya matey

Now that is a cracking shot....beautifully lit , super color , perfectly black background , plenty of detail & great use of empty space.......superb stuff mister :clap:

Thanks

Yup, like it. Especially the greens.

IMO, it would have worked as well with just one pair, but I can see why you added the other :)

Cheers.

what a lovely pair....... the main pair on the left is 100% perfect, with the stalk just curving its way into the frame, with the second one there for the theme. another "like"....

oooh that pair shot is lovely Allan

The lighting works brillaintly, with just that little hint of reflection.
Great textures, great colour and it looks fantastic emerging out of all that deep, dark shadow.

Thanks for looking in and for the nice comment

Hey Allan :)

Pair - What more can one say that has not already been said about the composition, lighting or blacks - a cracking photo indeed

Thank you

Hi Allan,

Process, I like number one. It's nice to see al the stages of the flower opening. The second one is just a tad too tenuous for me.

Rock, great detail in that rock  The sharpness and colour of the rock contrasts nicely against the blurred almost mono BG.

Pair, I was thinking of misspelling this week for pear, so you've done well to get both in there ;) Nice black background, composition and dead space.

Cheers.

What is it that you are not sure about Allan?

I think it is a very effective image.
Strong contrast in the shadow, vivid colour in the chestnut coupled with lots of lovely detail.
I like it

Maybe the only small crit I would add is that a more natural background would have been preferred but I can't think of anything natural which would give such an effective shadow on it

+1 looks bob on to me :)

works for me - love the shape of all the spikes translated into 2D in the shadow... nice green and sharp focus.

Is that a hair or something on the leftmost spike?

Nice colours in rock, and the contrast between those and the pretty monochrome background works well.

Pair is just a classy shot. The lighting and the composition are spot on. Probably my eyes, but there is a little group of 3 spots about a 3rd of the way along the bottom of the frame which could probably go, but it's nothing. Love the image.

I like shape too, colours and the angle of the lighting are really nice... but is there a hair on it?

Very striking shot Alan, great detail and lovely vivid greens.

Hi Allan

Pair - simple thought well handled . the comp is just soo.. good with the stalk, upright/fallen pear , postion, focus. Hard to find fault - I have always liked those northern european schhool paintings of still life and this is so reminiscient of them.

shape - strong shape, shadow and colour. Good use of the diagonal light. Good detail

love this type of shot, going to have to play around to see how this is done, like the effect that the pears are appearing out of the shadows, yet the sit of them that's lit up still retain great detail.

Lovely pair mate!

Bit of a catchup from me...

Rock - lovely colours and texture coming through on the rock, makes a lovely subject and just so happens to be bang on theme! Nice! Muted background helps too. Only crit would be I think there's the odd bit of vivid green sneaking through on your masked background!
Pair - Love it. Perfectly lit subject and I love the fact it works on more than one level. Clever! No crit from me on that one!
Shape - I'm not 100% on that one to be honest, not 100% sure why either! ;) I like the shadow and it certainly emphasises the 'shape' overall. Perhaps the slightly textured background is a bit of a distraction? Not sure!

Had to figure out today where to walk the hounds, the heat is a bit too much for one of them, so Delamere forest plenty of trees and plenty of shade

100% completely has to be the colour one..... great effect of the trees converging - rerally emphasises the height of them, and the greens working well against the blue of the sky...

Man I need a wide lens... That perspective is incredible.

Colour for me too. Love the composition, and the colours. The graduation in the sky from deep blue, getting hotter to the right is really nice, and the shock of fern at the bottom is a lovely touch.

Another vote for the colour version Allan

Great composition, the perspective really emphasises the height and scale.

Hi

Pair:think its all been said already...great
Plenty: As opposed to many others my preference is for the B&w, love the texture and the perspective drawing you in
