Aliens and Aliens Special Edition on iTunes

I have downloaded Alien and Aliens from iTunes.

Then iTunes added Alien: The Director's Cut and Aliens (Special Edition) to iTunes.

I can't find any details on iTunes as to what do the Special Editions contains that the normal ones don't have.

All I can see is the difference in the time length of each movies, the special editions seems to be little longer than the normal ones.

Would I be correct in assuming that the special edition ones got the deleted senses added to them? Such as in Aliens where we would see remote controlled machine guns firing at the aliens in a tunnel and the laptop computer showing the remaining ammo rapidly running low?
 
Aliens adds in new scenes and starts differently, showing Newt's family. Alien adds some scenes and takes away others. I thought the Director's Cut of Alien was shorter, but that might be my memory playing tricks.

Both Directors' Cut versions (in fact all four of the franchise), do contain scenes deleted for the cinema release editions, and yes in Aliens the sentry gun scenes make more sense of that part of the film.

Years ago I bought the Alien Quadrilogy on DVD, which includes both editions of all the films, plus other bonus footage/features.
It was expensive then. ..cheap as chips now :lol:

Was also lucky enough to visit "Alien War" in the Trocadero Centre London before flooding closed it.
That was quite the experience! :lol:

Saw that too, or as you say 'experienced' it in the Glasgow Arches in the early 90's :ROFLMAO:

Much improved by the time it reached London by all accounts ;)

Oh great!! So I downloaded the wrong item. Well I think I downloaded the original Aliens rather than the Aliens Special Edition may have been because at that time, iTunes only had the normal movie and did not have the special edition on iTunes at that point. I think they added it later on!

Great! so I guess I'll just have to delete the ones I got, and download the Director's cut and the special edition ones!
 
The Special Edition of Aliens really improves the film in my opinion and allows tension to build, unlike the theatrical version which rushes it. It was actually what Jim Cameron originally intended to release, but the studio ordered him to cut about 23 minutes out as they felt it "spent time doing nothing", when actually that was the whole point, it was building tension! I would probably call it one of the best action films ever made.

@Ricardodaforce the "Directors Cut" of Alien is actually slightly shorter; Ridley Scott has always maintained that the original version is his "directors cut" as he regards that as what he intended to release, 20th Century Fox just asked him to provide an alternate version to marry up with the alternate cuts of the rest of the Alien film that were on the Quadrilogy. In my opinion it doesn't really add anything to the original (which I prefer) apart from using some alternate takes and adding in/taking away a few minor short scenes.

If you move onto Alien 3, I fully recommend watching the "Assembly Edition" version of Alien 3 over the theatrical as it is much improved in both pacing and storyline, and comes as close as possible to what David Fincher wanted short of re-shooting the film, it being what was shown to studio execs who promptly ordered and made changes; Fincher left shortly after and has practically disowned what was released.

The less said about Resurrection the better I think.
 
Alien is, in my opinion, the best of the four by a mile.
On the whole, the menace of the film is implied rather than "in your face", and that's what makes it all the more scary.

Yeah, that's why I prefer the Aliens Special Edition over the original theatrical version, because at the start, we get to know how the it all started, as well as the remote control machine guns in the tunnel spitting rounds after rounds, at so many aliens coming through the tunnels. Specially when those machine guns ran out of ammo, and we see Cpl Hicks (Yes Sergeant, I do meant Hicks, no I do not meant Hudson) in a fit of rage at knowing how much aliens there are, nearly smashed the laptop with his assault rifle, only to be stopped by Ripley when she noticed the machine guns stopped firing with barely some ammo left to spare, meaning the aliens had turned back. I like that scene, seems to give the feeling of how frustrated at despite being an elite Marines outfit, he seems to feel powerless to stop a brunch of animals.

All that theatrical version have that I like the most is just how edgy Pvt Hudson (No Sergeant, he is Hudson, the other one is Hicks) feeling alarmed at how long it would take to expect a rescue mission, and Ripley pointed out that Newt, despite being a little girl with no military training, actually survived longer. "Oh great! Why don't you put her in charge?"
