Alert: Issue with Canon 1D and 1Ds RAW files on Windows Vista

 There is an issue with Canon RAW files that end in .TIF (which are limited to 1D & 1Ds cameras) on Windows Vista systems that do not have the Canon RAW codec. If a user adds metadata to one of these files, using the Windows Photo Gallery or the Windows Explorer, the file will be corrupted. This is a result of the Windows Imaging Component API not understanding the difference between a legitimate TIFF file, and a Canon RAW file with a .TIF suffix.

Microsoft and Canon have identified the issue and are testing a patch to address the problem. We will provide download information once the patch is released.

Its nice for you to post up the alert, but a "pro" is hardly going to use windows photo gallery or explorer to add metadata are they? Its a bug yes, its going to affect a tiny, tiny number of people and its being sorted.

No need for "micro****", "all the pro's have macs" whatever.

I'm sick to death of threads of mac users slating windows, we all use what we use because we like it, it doesn't make us any less of a pro, doesn't mean we lack skills or lack the brains of a "pro" mac user.

If you're going to post a thread like this one, try and do it in an "informing people" mindset and not a "OMFG LOLZ MS Are poo" way.

TBH I think most Mac users have taken so much crap over the years that they're also sick of getting Mac sucks comments every day. Its no excuse but there is plenty of blood spilt on either sides.
 
Lets face it...Each system has its pros and cons, and to be fair, Microsoft does suck a bit ;) (And yes, I'm an MS user).

Anyway, The OP's intention was to highlight a problem, which he did...and ended it with a tongue in cheek comment.
I use the term internut exploder, and MicroShaft all the time...It's all tongue in cheek ala Canon and Nikon.....

No need to stop sharing our sweets over it :D

Windows XP in our office is reckoned to stand for "Out the window(S) - eXtra Propulsion"! Still use it though at home AND work, although at home we do draw the line at IE - Opera is far more user friendly.

Hey hey!

Just imagine if we the non nieve and I.T literate P.C/MS users slated a Mac for whatever reason. Lot's of poor mac user's crying in there milk.

The MS slating is so F'ing boring! Usually by people who know diddly squat about computers. It really winds me up!

You would have to pay me to own and use a mac and it's huge amount of restrictions. I won't go on about all the s&*t I used have supporting the crappy things.

I wonder if Pro photographers use mac's cause they are Pro at photography and not Pro at computers and therefore need there computer to be as simple as possible i.e a Mac

Us that use they computers for much more than photoshop and internet use a PC.

Why not have a look around the site and see if you can contribute a comment or two to pics people have posted looking for comment. I'm sure you'll find some sadly lacking in responses. We're a photographic board..... remember?
 
I'm sorry but **** me the Windows only users are on such a high horse tonight. God only knows how they got the poor thing to stand on a soap box. Christ. Get a ****ing grip. Why can we joke about noisy nikons and sigma's with red rings on to immitate L glass but we can't joke here? I think some people got the joke but it seems some others, dare I say Windows users, just didn't. Its really pathetic to see them attacking and being far nastier than the Mac users who were merely joking. FFS guys, just learn to shut up.
 
I think it would be better if everyone took a step back from this thread, and calmed down a little....please :)

This thread was started with the intention of informing everyone about a bug in windows........Lets just leave it at that, regardless of the off the cuff comment about Microcrap.
Windows is crap, Macbooks are crap, everything is crap, but we all like different flavours of crap.

Now I'm off to edit some photos on my Windows Vista PC, which were taken with my Canon camera, and if anyone out there isn't using this combination, then they are all nancy boys with a penchant for lacy frilly underwear, and are quite effeminate and gay. Nuff said.
Now can everyone just drop the girlie arguments please? That would be super :thumbs:

It's not a lot of fun modding this board sometimes. Two mods have asked you to calm it down and people keep **** disturbing. No wonder boards go down the pan.

Thanks for the heads up Mark, doesnt affect me at the moment as i dont have a 1D or Vista ;)

As for the rest, some of you really need to chill out ! Its when threads with a simple "be warned" subject and then a little joke get taken out of all proportion that make me wonder why i bother !

Im an MS user and always have been, used to support Apples years ago and thought they were rubbish ! this week i have seen a Macbook pro, boot OSX, and then open parrallels and boot an XP OS, in a pretty impressive time, it was all connected to an MS Active Directory network running lotus notes natively on OSX, have to say its changed my mind to Mac's totally. I think maybe some of us should remove our blindfolds and open our minds a little ! and not get so defensive about it ! Its only a bloody computer at the end of the day !

Right i think i need to go and take some pictures, as thats what this board is all about, or used to be !
 
This thread really shows some people up, and it just amazes me how people can become so offended by comments which are obviously posted in a light hearted manner.

I'm almost tempted to start using the ignore list, but i'll leave that for later i think ;)
