Thanks for letting us know, Might well give them a try myself...

It seems all the supermarkets are now offering photo service, do you think it all goes to one main printer who has some sort of franchise thing going on?

I got a photobook done from tesco and it wasnt too bad...

I think they are done at each individual supermarket (Tesco do this), and Jessops will be following this model next month.

At the moment if you order on-line from Jessops they are done in Germany then posted to each individual shop, but next month they will be printed at the shop your going to collect from, which means you can complain / congratulate the actual guy who printed your photo. Also it will be a faster turn round as no delay as they print and post, you should be able to order on-line and pick-up with in a hour.

I recently had some wedding pictures printed at Asda and they come on crystal archive paper. They were fine, and I set them all up iin Photoshop before going. My friend does weddings professionally and he has taken them there too! He sent a few test printings to them first to see the results and sets up the Photoshop accordingly. They are almost as good and consistent as one or two more specialist printers he uses.

I did a wedding and wanted some done in black and white. I had the most done at Ilford but sent a test set to my Asda to compare. Honestly there is hardly any difference, maybe just to our more critical eye if you know what to look for, but I let a few people have a look and nobody oulod spot the difference.

I'll give Aldi a try. Shame in some ways the supermarkets are muscling in on everything, but if we win as consumers...

I tried Asda a while ago and thought the paper was a bit thin.

The photo uploading software is Windows only though!

Have they not heard of web based uploaders !

Very very poor...

The pricing seems pretty good if you are buying a good few prints. If you bought 20 of 12x8" from Tescos the price is £22 from Aldi it is £8.13 quite a saving.

I got a load of aldi 6x4 and a single 8x12 done last month and was very happy. However my 8x12 was printed on kodec paper whilst the 6x4's was on fuji.

Aldi have a Java uploader, seems that it only works in Firefox and Opera on my Mac, on Safari the applet does not get past the loading stage and I have Java enabled in preferences.

When I clicked on download the software it was an exe file. I will take another look.

Look for the "Upload & order the pictures" button. The Java applet runs in your browser. No software download is necessary.

Thanks for the info Britco. As a result of your post I ordered 38 7x4s and 3 8x12s on Sunday evening and they've just been delivered Tuesday morning - grand total of £6.15! A mixture of Kodak and Fuji paper - all glossy and borderless - I'm very impressed!

It's arrived, a 20 x 30 print on Kodak Royal paper, very clear and clean, Im not an expert on printing, but I can say I will be using the ALDI service a lot from now on.

very very impressed!

Acting upon information received (here) - I've just received back 10 12x8s for £3.40 + £1.33 post. Excellent quality. Colours as per my screen, Kodak paper of good thickness, quick delivery - 2 days. I'll be uploading a lot more this weekend.

Thank you Britco!

Just uploaded 90 pictures (87 6x4 & 3 12x8) it wouldn't upload any more but I can confirm that the whole process does work on the Mac. Its a shame that their software isn't available for the Mac because the Java applet is not really that good, but it does work.

Total price £5.40 including postage (after a £1 discount for the first order).

I've just had 2x A3 photos back this morning (Ordered Thursday), I must admit they have done a superb job, real good quality, I'm very happy.

After reading this thread, I ordered 20 prints just before midnight on Tuesday....eight hours later I received an e-mail to say they had been despatched. They were with me on Thursday morning - unbelievably quick delivery!

Paper slightly thinner than I expected, but quality was absolutely superb. I will most certainly be using them again.

Thanks for the tip!

Janet

Sounds great, I'm often dubious of cheaper alternatives such as this so it's good to know they are getting good reviews. I'll certainly bear this in mind for the future.

Heard several people recommend Aldi now, sounds like a good deal

do aldi accept paypal?

i pressume aldi is now the new loxley:lol:

From their faq:

You can either pay with credit card, debit card or PayPal. When you place the order you can select how you want to pay under "Payment Methods". If you decide to pay by PayPal a popup window will appear for you to enter your PayPal customer data.

Seriously, the quality is great. Some people have said that they are slightly thinner paper but once mounted that is irrelevant as far as I can see.
