Nice shot Alby and I love the processing you have done on it. It's a very interesting idea, and I presume your train of thought was that trees have similar structure below the ground as above it, but I wonder if it would not have worked better if the tree which was representing the roots had completely lost its leaves. Of the 2 versions I prefer the colour one, simply because it makes a beautiful picture.

Very very nice. I much prefer your original darker version though.

I really like your work and envious of your PP skills. Both 'Industry' and 'Root' are outstanding. I also really liked the way you took the time to explain how you did it. its very interesting to see the 'before' and 'after' in industry and helps everyone. thanks for sharing.

Thanks everybody for your input, lots of ideas for me to chew over for later editions. Thank you all. ;)

Handmade, I heard that the theme this week was handmade while at the TP hawk meet at the Weyhill Hawk Conservancy Trust so I got my thinking cap on and spotted this piece of crafted art and thought that will do nicely. So after a bit of playing around on the imac I came up with Old Rusty.

Title: "Old Rusty"

Striking while the iron is hot eh Alby?
I'm assuming that it was a metal artwork but the surface looks equally as though it could be old leather - interesting photo

Yes it is rusty steel Gramps, old leather... yes it does now you mention it.

Brilliant subject with brilliant lighting; how did you achieve it?

I like that though I wonder if it could do with a touch more light on the beak to enhance it.

For some reason Im finding that border distracting which then made me realise there's a definite corner of darkness in the top right in the background too.

Hi Alby
Sorry I don't get much time to comment but I like the colour version of root, and the DOF and lighting in handmade is good for the subject.

Very nice. Maybe just a little closer'd be nice, or would that be too much for the welding critics? :)

Thanks everybody for the constructive crit, much appreciated and good to hear what others might do with the shot.
For the purists here is the original straight out of the camera, just resized and sharpened after resizing.

Well if you waste your time shooting half naked babes instead of getting on with your 52 what do you expect Trev. ;)

:lol::lol:

Great shot as always Alby. spot on processing to. It really brings out the colour of the rust well.

Can I be contrary Alby and say I prefer the unedited version :D
Or maybe somewhere in between the two as I feel a little detail has been lost in the wing shadows.
Its an interesting subject, I love the colour tones in the rust, the texture also works well. Iain

Thanks all for the feedback and advice on my shots, all very much appreciated. ;)

Cash, a couple of ideas taken with my phone camera at Selsey. Standard snaps this week from me as not inspired at all by the theme unfortunately.

#1 has potential, maybe a window full frame? Maybe a crop?

Hi Alby. I was going to be gentle here, but then I realised you're capable of shots like "Old Rusty" and your root one, and thought; why? I'm afraid I just don't think either of your money shots do your abilities justice :(

The pharmacy one is a pretty tenuous link to the theme, but that's OK so long as the shot is great. It's just that I don't think it is; as you say it's just a snapshot.

The hole in the wall is better re the theme, but again a pretty uninspired photograph IMHO :(

I do understand that if a theme doesn't feel inspiring, it's difficult, but either or both of those shots could have been so much less snappy if you'd applied your usual skill to them I think.

Sorry, just trying to be honest :) Really, it's meant as a compliment; your work is fantastic apart from this little glitch!

Ok guys I get the message, I will have a think and try a little harder to come up with something outstanding  you're a tough lot aren't you? In fact I think I may have just thought of it so give me a couple of days to sort the re-shoot. ;)

Hi Alby

missed your Roots image....color version for me....amazing pp...I wouldn't even know where to start to create that sort of image.....top marks for that

Handmade......interesting find & shouts the theme...also looks quite menacing ! Have to agree with Iain on this one...I prefer the un-edited version as you can see more of the detail in the "feathers" & more of the textures . I suspect given your PP ability there will be a happy medium somewhere

Money....hey , we've all either been there already or will be there at some point during this challenge ( I'm sure )....one of my 1st thoughts was a cash point  Look forward to seeing your reshoot
