The B&W conversion suits this image Alby. The bright background isolates the figure well. Spot on theme. Out of curiosity, what size is this figure, just to put it in context? Iain

Thanks Iain, it is lifesize. The anvil is a real anvil. The sculpture is called "The Send Blacksmith" located in Send, Surrey.

Lifesize, cool. It is a very appealing piece of sculpture.

Hi Alby

Missed your posts and a bit tired now so:
Secure - no faults for me - good composition, colour, focus and crop:thumbs:
Industry - good shot - what a lovely piece of artwork. I like the background and again the composition is excellent. The only distracting thing for me is that his right side ( left hand as looking at pic) seems ill defined against the backgroundn compared with the flowing nature of the rest of the subject.

Love this one, great B&W imagine and a nice portrayal of the theme.

Hi Alby
Thanks for you input Alex. ;)

Thanks Alan, I will put up the original and you can see just what the b/g was. Thanks again for your input. ;)

Now I like your industry shot.

I have to ask what was the original like and what did you do to it?

Thnaks for looking Marsha. I cut out the figure which is the top layer. I created a few other layers and added layer masks to them. I used the gradient tool on the mask and then used the blur tool to blur the layers. I used gaussian blur and a radial zoom blur to give the background a bit of movement on different layers. That is the basics of what I did to achieve the look. It isn't easy to type out all the procedures as I tweek and adjust as I go along. I have no set method tbh. I could have cut the man out a little better, should have taken more time I suppose.

Just been reading how you did this, for a very dark image there is so much detail 10/10

Sorry for not coming in for a look sooner, been a bit busy.
Love your shot for industry, very different to most other shots, and the B&W suits it perfectly.
Great take on this weeks theme.

Wow! I am frequently amazed how a fairly average photo can be transformed with a bit of know how! Personally I have no idea about a lot of the stuff you're talking about, which leads me to Google to understand and practice. I still have my rather boring industry shots to 'tweak'.

It's always nice knowing how someone achieves certain looks.

Another good week Alby and agree that you have taken what I would consider to be a bit of a happy snap and transformed it fantastically. I really like that edit, like the moodiness, the lighting and the composition works really well on the edit.

Top job :)

Finally getting round to working my way through the spreadsheet and finding threads that I haven't commented on before.

Wow you've got some great shots here, your pp on fear, sigh and industry is awesome. You have a great way at looking and the theme and turning it on its head. IMO sigh and secure are my favourites from your challenge so far. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing the rest of your 52.

Oh very clever! I love it, bang on theme.

Thanks all, glad I came up with something worthwhile from a snap. :)

When I saw this months theme I straight away thought of Jerry Uelsmann. He is one of my favourite darkroom photographer/image manipulators of real still film. I though I might try and create something in a similar vein of Jerry's incredible work and came up with this for "Roots" hope you like.

Anyone wishing to look at Jerry Uelsmann's work it can ber found here: linky

Know nothing about Uelsmann but it's an interesting image that well suits the theme, though for me a tad too dark in parts.

Thanks Gramps, I have another but was tore between which to upload so here is the lighter one. I did prefer the darker on my mac tbh, it just seem to have more detail. Jerry Uelsmann is well worth a look, I find his stuff is incredible due to it all being done in the darkroom which is where my photographic root began.

For me, the lighter version is preferred, I can make out the detail - of course it could just be minitor difference

Thanks Gramps, the lower tree was lit by the sun and the top tree was silhouetted against the sun and I chose to do it this way round to highlight the roots. Thanks again for taking time. ;)

Hi Alby, it appears I've got a bit of catching up to do...

Secure - I love this! Possibly my favourite of the week.

Industry - Having looked at the photo you started out with, you are obviously skilled at post processing. I like what you've done here, it suits the theme and I like the 'feel' of it.

Root - Creative, but does not work for me this time I'm afraid (sorry!). It's just a bit too much for my personal taste.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with in the weeks to come. I have a feeling it is not going to be boring!

Well Alby missed your last 2 shots and thank god I'm catching up. Two amazing shots, with excellent pp work. Absolutely love them

Thanks everyone, just trying to add a little bit of art to my photography, not sure if it is a winner for me but it was definitely fun playing around to create it. Back to normal photography next week hopefully. :D

Some fantastic shots I have been missing out on. I love root great take on the theme. As for industry the processing really makes it imo :)

Two great additions here, I love the take on roots, really is a great photo

Matt

Terrific bit of PP work Alby it’s the colour one for me. Excellent

Cheers Trev, it was a bit rushed if I totally honest as time has been a bit of a premium lately. I might revisit it and get the background it really deserves when I get time. Thanks for passing by. ;)

Colour version for me too Alby. Great bit of PP work there also. Its a very interesting and creative take on the theme. Good work all round. Iain
