Incredible! It's just been announced on the BBC news that in the wake of anti terror legislation foreign nationals working 'airside' at British airports are not being criminal record checked (unlike British born nationals). This has been happening for the past 5 years apparently.

Something is seriously wrong when photographers going about their lawful business in public places are being stopped by the police yet people with criminal convictions are being allowed in close proximity to aircraft unchecked!

it was on newsnight a couple of days ago, its absolutely farsical!

paxman was talking (or rather shouting at) some minister incharge of airports or whatever and he absolutely ripped strips off him! the minister couldnt see the problem!

simple solution to the problem, dont employ anyone for whom you havent had a records check, and if that means you cant employ foreigners, then so be it!

I think the problem is that foreign records are not checked which is not always an easy thing to do, UK records are checked.

thats exactly the problem steep. but surely they shouldnt employ anyone until they can be sure they might not pose a risk and just because they cant CRB check them in my eyes does not meet that criteria. and the same 'excuse' could potentially lead to this country allowing all sorts of low life into this country

the difference between a passenger going through normal airport security checks and those same checks on 'airside' staff is that after getting through those checks a passenger cant very easily pose a risk, a staff member could potentially cause a hell of a lot of damage to vital equipment, aeroplanes etc so (this is the answer given by the minister i mentioned in my previous post) saying all staff are safe as they have been through the same checks as passengers is complete rubbish.............!
