So far I've tried 19 times to get a photo onto airliners.net and to date my success has been exactly 0%. This is my latest rejection;

Clicky

I got an email this morning saying it was rejected as it was soft. Does it look soft to anyone else? In a comparison to some of the shots on there its certainly not as soft as some?

So who has had shots accepted and can you give any tips.

Do you sharpen after resizing? It looks like the sort of softness that can be caused by that. (I don't know the submission process for that site, but assume you submit a shot at a certain size?)

I put that into Photoshop and used the normal "sharpen" filter and it certainly makes it look a bit sharper.

I would say that it looks soft all over but especially around the undercarriage and the cockpit. I have not submitted to A.net yet as I am still refining my photography, but as I type this I have a.net open in another tab.

TBH I think that you are asking in the wrong place, most TP members will probably not be familiar with a.net and its extremely tight acceptance rules I would have thought that the best place to be asking this would be to start a thread in the Photography Feedback section, there are some very helpful members on there and the screeners are always around there to help also Dlowwa has been particularly helpful with me.

Most odd, I've just compared it to the shot I submitted and it has got a little softer, but then again although I sent them the image at the right resolutions the rejected one seems to have grown a little?

Still, I've just done a quick sharpen and sent it again. Whats the betting it comes back saying its overly sharpened?!

Well here is a crop from the image I have just submitted with no signs of haloing or anything.

The only thing is I've just compared it to the original I sent and its just as sharp?

I would not surprise me for it also to get a motive rejection because you have cut the tips of the rotor blades off and it's positioning doesn't look to balanced with the tail cut off, if you frame has the entire aircraft in I would crop it to show the whole aircraft, this will also help with the softness issues.

All my own opinion as I am yet to submit to a.net but I make a point to follow the feedback forum. I would again say that, that forum would be the best place to be asking these questions.

Yes having checked your original post you have the entire aircraft in view, but it looks like you are uploading at 1600 wide, this is something that is not recommended on a.net they suggest 1024-1200 normally this will also help the softness issue.

The submitted image was actually 1200x800, on the rejection page they seem to upsize everything to 1600.

I know Dave they really do want a very very high standard, I'm getting there slowly, its usually the second screener that rejects my shots now!

Never heard of that site before so just had a look. Almost did myself an injury laughing! Could that be the most up-its-own-rear-end site ever? Gotta love this line...

"Not enough focus on the nose for the nose category to be selected"

It certainly looks too soft to me, but regarding airliners.net submissions I looked at it once and decided life was too short :lol:
