Quick question for this morning.

Can Nikon non AI lenses still be AI'd and does anybody know who does it and how much?

You can DIY the job …… there are instructions on the web ………. not difficult if you can use a very small saw and a file and you cover everything ………. I did my 55mm f1.2 a few years ago and it was relatively simple ……just tape up the end very well to stop any filings getting into the lens … if you cannot take the "ring" off

There is a guy in The States that does it ……. not aware of anyone in the UK

best article I have seen …..but I used an earlier one …… there are a few around

Yes / No / Maybe

Lots of useful info here which suggests that Aztech Services in the UK hold the remaining stock of conversion kits.

AI conversions - We hold the remaining stocks of AI kits

Last time I had a lens done it was a 50mm F2 by Fixation probably 1988 or possibly 1987

I have an old Nikkor-S pre-AI 50mm f1.4 lens that came with the Nikkormat my dad gave me. I found someone in the states on ebay who did a great job of it for me, at very reasonable price. He only actually needed the aperture ring part from the back of the lens, but I wasn't able to remove it myself so sent him the whole lens. He also kindly cleaned out a little bit of fungus that was in it at the same time. While the Ai'ing doesn't look quite as good as a proper AI job with the correct kit, it was done to a high standard and I was very happy. I'll try to find him again on ebay and update. (update: doesn't seem to be there any more as far as I can see).

Also worth finding out which conversion kit your lens needs and see if you can find it on ebay or elsewhere, because that will be the best solution by far.
