Hearing aids that is , I have needed them for many years due to high frequency hearing loss , being a bird / wildlife photographer that can’t hear birds has been daunting to say the least , yes I have had hearing aids for around 12 years or so but never been able to get on with them due to not being able to wear them in the situations where needed . I.e sitting on the settee watching t.v and they gave feedback ,whistling etc , same for outdoor use whistling in winds made the no good for outdoor use ..

Anyway just before going on holiday I booked in to have mine serviced .. the lovely young lady told me these are out of date but I can order you some new digital ones that will cure those problems .. .

Well today was pick up day , she went through all my potential use scenarios and then I spent about 30 minutes in the sound booth while she mapped out my levels on the computer , the new aids were then programmed to the computer and I’m now sat at home with my head on the settee backrest writing this and listening to t.v at what the wife tells me is normal levels , no whistling .. bloody marvellous .. yet to try them outdoors but I have no doubt they will be fine , my boat trip Saturday will be a good test of useage . But at the moment we’ll pleased . Not yet tried it but apparently I can tune these up on the i.phone to plus lots of other little tricks .. not messing at the moment though

Mine are about 4 or 5 years old and starting to play up a bit - volume can be a bit variable (with no adjustment applied) and they've started to eat batteries (under an hour sometimes...). I should get them sorted at some point!

Unless you NEED to hear on the boat trip, I'd put them in a waterproof case for the duration, especially if it's on salt water.

Yeah will mull that over but it’s on one of the Mersey ferries going out into Liverpool bay ,not a small boat at all and with this weather I would think a flat calm .. plus it’s a rspb event so they will be making announcements worth hearing I.e spotting

The boat trips we go on tend to be MUCH smaller boats and I usually get rather wet (I dangle my feet over the bow into the bow wave...) Enjoy the trip.

Since I had some time before I had to pick Mrs Nod up after class this morning, I dropped in to the drop in repair clinic. Half an hour later, a new pair had been programmed to my hearing loss profile and I was on my way. Only slight hiccough was that I first turned up at 08:30, the time the website told me that Chime opened. Well, it was indeed open but the repair clinic didn't start until 09:15! Gave me time to pick up some more sunscreen and a prescription before nipping back into town. Gotta love free parking for motorbikes!

Finally - I can sit in the garden 50 miles from you and not hear your voice as you talk to Jan :D

Glad its worked out for you pal
We need a meet up again soon Mike
