Beautiful morning don't you think? A good morning for taking lots of lovely pics, right?

I am about to give up on this camera(my 350D, already replaced 4 times in 7 days). It's no longer working. All of a sudden when I half depress for focus the damn lens does not move and squeaks like a bitch :( I'm going to have to take it back to Jessops AGAIN aren't I? What do you reckon... 5th time in 7 days the charm?:shake:

I tried taking the lens off and reattatching, but still nothing. Is there something really simple I am missing?

They had BETTER be open today, as I had plans to go out for the first time with it today, and lots over this weekend. I just knew this would happen.

Just double check the Af/MF button isn't stuck somewhere in between the 2 settings. May be the cause.

I would have thought Jessops will be open today, most shops will be.

you had the lens checked out? or is it a different problem everytime?
 
Sorry I should clarify. The other times I have had it returned have not been for camera problem per say. Missing parts, wrong camera and such.

I checked the contacts, and the af/mf switch all are as they should be, and when I use MF it still works, it's just the AF mode that sounds like it's in agony and refuses to move.

So long as they are open today, I'm going to go and raise merry hell for all the trouble I have had.
 
Swap it and get a 400d - at least you're more likely to get a box that hasn't either been sat on their shelf for a year and the box shouldn't have been opened.

Sounds like a problem with that lens though - is it the kit lens?
 
The AF motors are in the lenses in Canon arent they? (Or is it the other way round?)

If so, can you try another lens on it? Would be easier to get them to swap out a lens as opposed to a camera.
 
I'm not sure, but if the motors are in the camera and its something in the lens that isn't oiled right/moving right it could burn out the motor I guess.
 
Well after many phone calls two and frow, it's sorted.

The guy in store is going to check the camera over for me and replace the lens today. He's also giving me £60 in vouchers and I'm about to pick a tripod off the website free of charge too (one designed for use while seated or in a wheelchair) any recommendations? The store manager is calling me in an hour and I'm to tell him which one I want, if they have it in store he will give it to my husband when he goes up town with the camera later.

A good outcome I guess :)

They went back on their word about the Tripod. He is now claiming that he meant for the £60 vouchers to be used towards a tripod. Oh well it's better than nothing, and they are throwing in one of their new Pod's for free too. Shouldn't grumble I guess.

The other half is on his way to the store right now, to get my lens replaced, camera checked over, pick me a new tripod (mine's broken anyway so I need a new one no matter what) and get the Pod thingy.

I also figured out that if I have one of the legs on the tripod shorter than the other two, it brings the tripod forward enough anyway :lol: All this bloody time struggling, and I could have simply done that.

All new Nikon lenses have the motor in the lens - old lenses have a mechanical linkage that allows the camera to operate the AF servo. New lenses don't have this linkage and are operated by the electronic contacts - this makes the new lenses much faster in all AF modes and a damn sight quieter too.
