Ah well at least they died doing something they loved.....

I have often thought this would be interesting to watch from behind the barriers but wow not in front of them suckers.

Not enough people do it. If a lot more were tempted to try it population increase would slow down.

Be interesting to see if the no win no fee brigade try claiming compensation!

It seems funny in a way, and rather sad that people greet the news of other people's deaths as great news and something to be celebrated. Doing that makes you no better then them. Sure, its barbaric, but to stand up and celebrate a death as great news when a spectator (amongst others) is killed isn't really any better. Explain how that makes you better somehow...or are you only cheering from behind your keyboards?

I think it is a great spectacle. Nice to see the Bulls winning :)

I wonder what the British version could be of this? Geordie women on a hen night run? Doesn't roll of the tongue....

I shan't celebrate.
Nor shall I lose any sleep.
Do something inherently stupid...accept the consequences.

For me this is very simple. The only participants who aren't there out of free will are the bulls. Everyone else is there out of free will, they know what they are going to get. It really isn't hard to imagine. I really see no issue with it. Would I run? Hell no, I'm not that stupid.

I agree completely...just won't celebrate their deaths either. I'd love to watch one though.

I'd love to photography an event....The colour, the action, the people, right up my street considering my love for street. Definitely beats; Man at bus stop, Women on bench ;)

Run up and stab them first, or wasn't claret the colour you were after. ;)

Not quite the spirit and excitement I was after. Not really the kind of thing I'd like to document. Sorry.

I've been waiting for this thread to appear. As each death has occurred I've been wondering when a thread would start. However I guess they haven't been reported in the British press.
As a admitted fan of corridas de toros (bullfights) it may come as a surprise to know that I see no point whatsoever in these local encierros (running of the bulls) or things like bous al mar or bous embolats or any of these small local fiestas. The exception being the week-long spectacle that is the festival of San Fermin in Pamplona in July.
However I won't relish or celebrate these fatalities. These are sons, fathers etc and they died doing something that to them was a risk worth taking.

If your looking for thrills & it goes wrong then that's your problem.

I suppose its in the culture which is lost in translation over here! Not something I could ever support or condone but it is spectacular and i would imagine a rite of passage in many communities.

Not exactly a right of passage for those who travel from all over the world to run with enraged bulls and take on these runs.

I do feel for the families, but perhaps those killed should have considered their families too before dying in such a foolish manner.

I'm talking about the more local festivals not Pamplona

Fair enough, but foreign, domestic, still dumb.
No one should be surprised when someone dies.

I can see where you are coming from... but at the end of the day, sometimes the bull wins... Unusual as bullfighting, not running is barbaric and causes much pain for the bull.. However, saying that I am an espanaphile (made that word up) and I appreciate the culture. Would I want to go and watch a bullfight? 50/50 on yes/no for the culture etc but the fact its a loaded fight, no.

Don't get me wrong, not a veggie etc, have no issues in eating dead animals, I struggle with animals being torured / killed for sport / entertainment..

Oh I struggle with that as much. It's just the seeming glee people seem to have with the associated deaths I don't quiet get

There is a lot of hypocrisy in the world isn't there? ;)

Is it glee? If you partake in such a dangerous thing, you are courting death, it's a possible outcome, so in effect they do "deserve" to die, because they have risked / endangered their own lives. They are hardly innocent bystanders.

What a stupid thing to say. Does Lewis Hamilton deserve to die? Your "logic" applies to him equally.

What a stupid analogy. A race driver is strapped inside a safety cell, plus other measures are taken to ensure a race drivers safety as much as possible. He's not exactly running around a race track being chased down by something p***ed off and trying to hurt him is he.

Except the guy who was a spectator. He was a bystander.

How would you describe comment such as "what great news" as anything but glee?

Not a stupid analogy at all. Top-level open-wheel motorsport (F1 or IndyCar) is inherently risky. Those drivers willingly endanger their lives in their quest for success. So, again, did Jules Bianchi or Dan Whelden deserve to die?

Measures are taken to try to ensure their safety, so no they didn't deserve to die it is a freak accident nothing is setting out with the intention to harm them. Other than not being the slowest runner, what adequate safety measures are their in Bull running, none. So yes it is a stupid analogy.

Once again, deserve? No.
But shocking? No.
It's a risk they take.

What precautions are taken that a bystander or spectator is in no danger?

Answer the question, instead of avoiding it :)

And you mentioned innocent bystanders, I just pointed out one of those had been killed too. No idea about precautions...not sure how it's relevant anyway

You really are making no sense. To say these people deserved to die is sick.

If they were anything like the participants in other risky sports I've known then no, they don't deserve to die. But like everybody who's ever taken part in any risky activity the accept that accidents can and do happen and aren't surprised when they do

Exactly.

Jihadists should take up this sport. Their population cannot go down soon enough.
