Oh that's what it is! I've been getting adverts from them through my inbox for the past couple of days...

Ok, I shall give them a few weeks to get organised and we'll see if they are a bit slicker than the old days.

Is it just me then?

I've never had a problem buying from them. Never used their developing service though.

Must just be you.... I placed an order for developing stuff, tanks, chemicals etc... after three months and some emails saying they'd be delivered soon, they finally told me they were waiting on a back order for the developing tank kit, I sent them an email asking them to cancel I'd go elsewhere, and hey presto, my stuff seemed to be found in the shop lol. So, I did get my stuff eventually, but that wasn't the only order with delays, but it is now my last order with them.

I googled this a bit (always dubious about rebrandings) and they explained it as an attempt to streamline their stock to appeal to the film neophytes, rather than the bewildering amount of stuff available on the main site. I think that's a good idea - they obviously see film (re-)taking off, and they're trying to capture some of the lomo/holga crowd. They also said that it's a trial run for the new ecommerce system they have, which is going live on the main AG site next month.

If that's their target market, I think they've missed a trick by not making a Rodinal clone more obvious than the Tetenal Paranol they're showing. If there's one developer nearly every burgeoning film shooter knows of, it's Rodinal. :)

I wondered who this was as well! I've been nothing but happy with AG Photographic, their shop and dev services.

I've only dealt with AG only once, never again they took almost six months to complete my order it seems they forgot about it (their words) used RK photographic and Silverprint with no problems.

Well I've just put an order in for some paper and film so let's see how it goes, fingers crossed :)

A recurring problem in my experience seemed to be that AG didn't have various listed items in stock at any given time. Thus you might see what you wanted on the website, and order it, only to wait in vain for its appearance. An explanation for this would only appear in response to a probing email, rather than by default ...

When this happens more than once, it dents your confidence a bit. Somehow I doubt that a new website front-end betokens a better-structured warehousing model?

Silverprint, as mentioned, are pretty solid. I haven't written AG off quite yet ... but they do need to up their game a bit to generate more customer loyalty.

Best use of the word 'betokens' I've seen today, well done

It's a marvellous word.

Right up there with behove and behest.

Proper Old English / Germanic.

I've just had an email saying my order has been dispatched, so looking good so far :)

Last time I used AG an item I ordered wasn't despatched for a week or so, after I asked what was going on I was told it was due in stock the next day, and that I would get it very soon. I said that had I know it was out of stock I would have ordered from elsewhere, and they replied saying that they were going to have new stock management software soon. Guess this is what they meant!

Since I posted this I have been reading some more complimentary things about AG and that they are improving their systems, so I decided to give them another go this time I could not fault them.
So in the interest of fare play I am posting this.

What did you use them for Bob? Film, chemicals, processing?

I've always popped in to buy things as I live about 30-45 minutes away. Never had any problems, and it's always an interesting visit.

Just received this email from AG

New Stock Contol & Order Management System at Ag

Big investment in increased stock

DSCF1746[1].jpg

  • Massive improvement in customer service
  • Accurate in/out stock on the websites
  • Vastly reduced man hours managing stock inventory
  • Big increase in stock holding here in Birmingham
We have recently implemented completely new software in order to manage our stock inventory and orders. This is a really superb system and MILES better than our old system. (Already customers have remarked on improvements!) and it means we are able to give accurate information on the website about whether items are currently available or not. And a whole load of other benefits too!

Thanks to our customers for continued support!

Would love to hear from anyone who's used them recently and noticed a marked improvement. I would love to use them as they do stock a lot of stuff at reasonable prices but have yet to be convinced by their customer service..

I used them a couple of years ago and the service was appalling I vowed I would never use them again, however having been told by a mate that they had improved I decided to give then another go recently and found they were excellent
this was purchasing film.

Sorry just realised I had already replied to this thread, ( the senility is worse than I thought),
its the big seven oh this year
Bob

Like you Bob I tried them a few times but was left frustrated by their customer service and annoyed that they couldn't even drop me an email to let me know some of my order was out of stock, so sat waiting for ages for something I could have picked up from Silverprint.

But if they've improved i'll give them another go.

And I wouldn't worry too much about the senility, you'll fit right in round here.
