Hi

I'm after a decent camera but as a beginner, can't justify the £400+ that a new, up to date Canon or equivalent would cost.

The camera will mostly be used for portraits and for taking pictures of my cars. What I miss on my existing digital compact (and obviously on my phone's camera) is the ability to set aperture priority for shots to give a shallow depth of field.

Ideally I'd like to spend no more than £200 so I'm looking for advice on where to buy. I posted on one of my car forums and was directed here as apparently you have a For Sale section. Until now I've been keeping an eye on eBay but am always a bit wary buying (reasonably expensive) gadgetry on there.

Any tips and advice gratefully received ...

Hello, welcome to the forum. You could buy a second hard canon 10D plus a 50mm f/1.8 which is ideal for shallow depth of field. That will just about fit under £200 if you dont care about how old the model is.

I'd been looking at 350Ds. Is the 10D a better camera?

I would personally prefer 350D cos its lighter but this depends whether your budget of £200 is for body only and no glass.

Hi  and :welcome: to TP.

You may get more feedback if you post the same question in Talk Equipment, a sub forum here  ... good luck with your hunting, and I hope you find a suitable body & lens; there must be plenty about
