After a zoom lens for 450D

They are basic lenses. I've got the Sigma 70-300 APO (about £160) which is reportedly much sharper than that lens. However if you can afford a little more the Canon 55-250 IS is great and probably the one i'd get if I was buying again.

The reason being is those lenses need plenty of light to give good results (i always found myself shooting at max aperature at lowish shutter speeds which is not ideal) The IS of the canon would allow for sharp results when the sigma's would be struggling.

With regards the 28-70, your kit 18-55 IS is a much better lens.

I have the canon 55-250 IS and its a great lens to use alongside the kit lens!

Before taking the L glass plunge I shot all my speedway stuff with the Sigma 70-300mm lens mentioned above and found it absolutely fine. If heading that way though make sure you get the APO version as it's far superior to the basic one. (Which is the one on offer in your link :() Actually - it looks like the APO version is currently on offer at Amazon....

I've got both the Sig 70-300 APO and the Canon 55-250 IS, I prefer the Canon, (about £170) perfect partner to the 18-55 IS kit lens....I think so

I would tend to agree with the others posting about the Canon 55-250 IS lens.
It's a great lens and perfectly compliments the kit 18-55 IS lens. Great value for money.

^ no offence, the 75-300 is supposed to be a very poor lens, with a lot of softness across the focal range (as opposed to the 70-300 IS UMS which is very good, but a lot more expensive).

For an additional £50 you can get the 55-250 IS, which as stated already, is very, very good. I have one and it does absolutely everything I need it to, its sharp as you like with very good IQ.

55-250IS gets very good reviews. 70-210mm F4 (an old lens) is also a nice lens and well worth the pityful £60 or so they go for used if you're not 100% sure on this length range.
